Got My Amex Blue. 2% purchase rebate for the first three months and then 1%.
Amex pay the rebate monthly whilst Capital One (Circle rebate card now at 0.5% for me) pays just once a year.

I must congratulate the telephone staff of both organisations for their professional and informative way of doing business.

The reduction did not apply to everyone.
If you didn't get a letter then you didn't get a reduction.

We have tried to work out the basis for their selection and it looks like the newer customers get to keep the 1%.

I have had my Capital One Circle Card since Oct 2002 and I did not get any letter about this reduction. I recommended this card to a friend who took it out about six months ago and he got the letter at the end of June. So it is not exactly the newer customers get to keep the 1%. It might have something to do with your spending pattern I guess.

Got notification from Amex Blue today that they'd be reducing the cashback (time to stop using it, wait for the annual cashback and then cancel the card!). Odd marketing decision given how few places take Amex, you'd have thought they'd want all the card holders they could get, but that's another thread.

I had heard that the Circle card was no longer going to give 1% so just phoned them up (5mins to get to talk to someone, not very impressive) to check. They confirmed that as an existing account holder I was continuing to get 1% for the forseeable future - so I'll keep that card for the moment.

Just need a replacement for the Amex Blue now (like to have 2 cards just in case).

Just noticed from my statement that I have this month exceeded the £5k spend ceiling with my platinum AMEX but not been given the 2% cashback per the T&C when I transferred from my AMEX Blue card in May.

I have twice spoken to AMEX Customer Service (seems like one located in India and one in Sweden) who tell me that the 2% does not cut in until £7k and the 1% limit is at £3k. I have not received any notification to this effect and all both CS people could say is that AMEX will send me a letter within 28 days telling me what the ceiling is.

Has AMEX sneakily raised the ceiling and has anyone with the Platinum AMEX had a similar experience yet? - check your cashback on the statement >:(

I am still in debate with AMEX and will let you know what happens after receiving my 'written confirmation'.

    Stung by cashback.

Just before I received my last c/card statement I put £2000 on the c/card for a holiday to Sri Lanka (hurry up October!). Oh big mistake. When the statement came I noticed the points total for cashback was really low this time so I checked and they had dropped it to the 0.25% rate. Halifax send so much BUMPH with their statements that mostly it just get binned but indeed there was a miniscule little notice to confirm it. I haven't seen the meagre offerings from the holiday spend cashback yet but I'm sure it won't be good.

Hence a swifty move to Nationwide for the time back.

    Grr - banks! :(

  • I tried to get an application form for a bank of ireland cashback card. First by phone, said it would be here in two days - waited two weeks. Then by filling their internet form, got a confirmation saying it would be two days - that was a week ago and still waiting. Seems like they are busy any one else having problems?

I've still got no notification of any change in cashback rates from AmEx. So what cashback rate would I get from when it comes in? Would they calculate my spending from when my 12 month cashback period started to determine how much I spent, and therefore the cashback rate on that spending, or would they say from the date the change comes in my spending starts a fresh, and so anything I spend from the date it comes in til my cashback day gets the lower rate.
