...well.... this is what SKY say about their SKY+ box ....

SKY+ WILL CHANGE THE WAY YOU WATCH TV Sky+ is our award winning digital TV recorder and digital receiver in one, exclusive to Sky customers. Sky+ lets you record and store your favourite programmes so you can watch them whenever you like. You can even pause and rewind live TV and with an average of 40 hours of recording time you will always have something you want to watch. Once you experience the no tapes, no timers, and no fuss of Sky+, you'll never want to go back to ‘ordinary' TV.

...and also, for me, I'm always forgetting to record things, so you can also set up series links, so that it automatically records the program every time its on. The other 'great' thing is that you can record two sky programs at the same time (or watch one, and record the other)....

...the only drawback with the basic box they offer (remember £65 if you are an existing customer and threaten to cancel) is that it only has storage for 40 hours, which sounds a lot, but if you record lots of movies it soon takes up space

...if you are on a 'basic' package you have to pay an additional £10 a month for this service (on top of the box) but if you already have a preminum channel (either sports or movies) there is no additional cost per month

...remember new customers to sky get this for £89 + 10 online credit (I think) + 4 months half price line rental...

    Hi

Decided to cancel Sky as I only watch a couple of programmes - and not bother haggling for a discount as I want to save ALL the money. What I save can buy the DVD box sets when they're discounted in the future.

So phoned up and when they started asking questions as to what channels I watch I said "as I'm paying 8p minute for this call I'd rather not answer questions i just want to cancel cos its too expensive".

So I'm on a 30 days cancellation notice. Two weeks into this, Sky phone up, ask why I'm cancelling (too expensive) and they offer me 6 months half price, no 12 month contract, just have to stay for the first three months. I was tempted but said no (as I have made my mind up to cancel).

Just waiting for another call with 7 days left offering 9 months at half price !!!!

That was a good offer Dave2122, My old dear called Sky to Cancel as it was too expensive. I stated to her, "just say I would like to Cancel as it is too expensive and I can't afford it" We currently pay £34 (we have all the standard channels and Sports) Got offered the next month at £12 then the next two months at £18. We will see what they offer after the three months.

The women my mum spoke to stated she couldn't see why we couldn't have the sports package on its own. I was under the impression that you couldn't have the sports channels as part of the variety mix? As I thought it was classed as addon as such. Can anyone confirm?
  • Rang up threatening to cancel Sky and the cancellations department offered three months half price. I accepted their offer.

Lol... NTL messed up, try and beat this deal folks :-)
Using the MSE tips phoned up NTL last month and after much haranguing got:

    10MB Internet 25.99
    Base Digital TV 10.00
    Basic Phone FREE

BUT, when I got the bill today they had messed up the credits AND added a £120 goodwill guesure:

    Total Bill 35.99
    Total reoccuring credits -22.00
    Amount owed 13.00

So, with the £120 goodwill guesture I'm basically getting free NTL for the next 9 months. For once, I feel like i`m getting value for money from NTL :-)
