"sky engineer recently came to fix my system as my screen kept freezing. Due to talks with (aggressive!) lady at sky the engineer did come for free as i said i was going to cancel rather then pay

Sky engineer did bits and bobs with my system and advised that if it started freezing again to be careful with replacement box offered by sky as they are reconditioned and would not be as good quality anyway as my panasonic box.

Predictably screen started freezing again that night and is getting worse".

Any repair work undertaken by sky engineer is guaranteed for 3 months. So they should come and repair under that guarantee as it is the same problem.
Any replaced box IS reconditioned , but could well have never left the factory, before it was fault checked, repaired or part replaced and then checked again.

If you did decide to go the sky+ route. It is an excellent system. I like others have had some issues with freezing, but not for a long time and it was fixed no problem. And we have moved house twice !
  • I phoned up to threaten to cancel a few weeks ago hoping to be offered the 3 months half price offer, but the guy on the phone kept saying 'you won't get that - you've had too many offers already so they won;t offer you the half price offer again'. He did offer 25% off for a year but I said it's not worth it and proceeded with the cancellation. 3 weeks later, sky phoned me and offered me 6 months 1/2 price!!!! Woohoo!!!!! :D

I've been with Sky now for 2 years and I've now had the half price offer on my account for approx the last year so it just goes to show that if you persevere, you will still get it!! Even if you cancel, if they don;t bother to phone you then you can phone up to cancel your cancellation the day before it's due to be cut off so there's no harm in threatening to cancel properly if it's too expensive!!! :)

Only crap thing is, we've just sold the house so will I have to pay to get the dish shifted and re-fitted or will I be able to talk them into doing that for free too??

I moved home last summer so I rang to cancel saying I could not afford the costs to re-install at new house and I could also not afford to pay the subscription due to higher mortgage bills etc, so the kind Scottish lady gave me free instillation and 3 months at half price!

Phoned today (the 0800 number isn't working anymore btw - it tells you to call the 0870 one). Anyway, just got 3 months at half price.

The guy I spoke to also informed me that the Disney Channels will now be part of the childrens package soon so we'll be able to get those too! (we're on sports and family - I think!).

My sky reciever has gone belly up. If i cancel my subscription for a while, anyone know if they provide you with a new one if you ring and re-subscribe at a later date. If so how long should i leave it??

From what I've read here and from another forum (https://www.avforums.com), if you phone up to cancel, when they ask you why you want to cancel - tell them that your sky box has broken and you've decided to cancel anyway. They will offer to send an engineer out for around £60 - £70, you say it's not worth it, and they will send you a new box - this is is what some have done.

I don't have any experience myself, although I am gearing myself to phone them to cancel myself, as I only have family pack and it really isn't worth £21.00 a month, especially now I have a new tv which has integrated freeview and works beautifully. From the channels I miss, I could get top up for just £7.99 a month - big saving! Plus keep my sky box and can record from while watching my tv freeview.

I just rang to see what they offered me after my 50% and 40% reductions and it was 25% for the next 2 months. In the end i went through and cancelled and am going to play the waiting game to see if they call in the next three weeks. if not i'll be ringing back to cancel my cancellation

Thanks. When the footie season's over, I will prob cancel too.
  • I took your advice and wrote to the M D of Marketing and eventally got a month free subs £43 and three months half price. It was a bit of an effort as I had no response after a week and rang "customer services" who could only tell me I was offered one month free and as I had complained would I like to end my account!!!! I then today spoke to the scottish lady who actually knows what she is doing and she is now offering me the now famous three months half price. Still a saving of over £100 over three months so not bad for just skimming these sites at lunchtime!!!

Just rang after a 3 month offer. They said they would give me 25% off for a year . It would tie me in and my box is old so I plumped for 25% OFFfor 2 months I could take my pick over length of time I'll call again in 2 months. You do have to ring the 0870 number now unless anyone has a 0800 number
