If you decide to go down this route, again call to cancel. State the reason why is because your equipment is faulty and you are upset that new subscribers can get sky+ for free or £50 whatever the current deal is. ( Look it up on sky website). They should be able to offer you a comparative deal. Sky+ will need an additional cable running into the sky box from the dish, so the sky installer will check all the equip for you and may even supply new dish as part of deal.
Thanks - I'l go with this option.
Does anyone know if the cancellations Dept are open over the weekend or do i have to stick with Mon-Fri 9-5?0 -
Cancellations open.
7 days a week.

Just called Sky to cancel...got through to a foreign lady who took all my details and transferred me to 'very bubbly Scottish lady'! I told her I need to cancel because I am moving home.
She said she understood that moving was expensive and offered me 3 months at half price. I enquired about the Sky+ box and she said that she could offer me a + box for only £49 but would need to sign me up for a year contract. I said I would prefer the half price offer for 3 months and she said to call in 3 months and if I want to cancel, they may be able to offer me another deal!
I have to say it was rather an enjoyable conversation and I am now happy that for the next 3 months I only pay £21.25!The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart....0 -
Incidently, do you have to be out of any 12 month obligations for these threats of leaving to prompt any deals?
If i managed to get a cheap Sky+ box, I couldn't then expect to get any reduction in costs in a few months time with my monthly subscriptions?0 -
Wigwam 12
Correct - Any deal to get sky+ would link you into new 12 month contract which would always have to include either the movie package or the sports package or a bit of both to get the sky+ facilities for free, otherwise it is £10 a month.
And YES you would then not be able to threaten to leave to get the 1/2 price etc deals.
The date of your contract is clearly displayed on the screen for the customer op to read. They are NOT ALLOWED to give deal unless you have the real ability to leave.
In short you cannot have your cake....with candles.....and eat it !!!0 -
hhhhmmm so choice is: come and fix it for free and give me some money off or give me sky+ and i pay what i do now...0

I have already been given 3 months at half price twice, phoned up again today and got offered 2 deals both of which were poor, so cancelled.
No more Sky0 -

What package did you have jamiesd? I have made a decision to cancel sky - I am going to make the phonecall on Monday. I am currently on family package of £21.00 a month - 4 weeks ago I bought the TOSHIBA 32WLT58 LCD television (my CRT broke before christmas) and has integrated freeview. The DTV is so good, I can't tell the difference between watching that and sky -on quality, and considering the number of channels that I will miss I can't justify paying £21.00 a month for it.
The tv also has a CAM slot at the back, so if I want more channels that would only cost me £7.99 a month!
How are you coping with Freeview only channels? Are you missing sky at all? I wonder what they'll try to offer me - I have never tried to cancel sky before, although a couple of years ago I dropped the movie channels. Although I missed those channels for a week or so, I got used to it! Freeview are also bringing out a few more channels in a few months.
I have been trying to watch only freeview for the past couple of weeks to see how I get on, and if it carries on like it is, I can't fault it.0 -
I had the sports package which was £36 per month, they offered me 25% off for 2 months, thought that was a poor offer, then they offered sports 1&3 for £21 per month for 12 months.
Told them i wasn't interested in it, really was holding out for a hald price deal again.
Nevermind.
I have still got the sports package till 5th of april, so i'll enjoy it till then.
I've done a bit of digging and i can get channels through the box after they cancel my account.
Was going to go for the freesat from sky card for £20, but found out i can recieve all these channels bar 3 (channel 4, 5 and one other) without buying the card.
Problem is, where i stay even with an outside ariel i can't get good reception for freeview. I have an old analogue dish and box was thinking of putting that up on the chance i may get some foreign sport channels. Only thing is the dish is massive and very ugly.
Sky are a rip off and due to holiday and social committments(money is tight) i decided it had to go.0 -

I've a bit of good news for you - you'll still be able to get Channel 4, five and Sky 3 after your Sky subscription ends, they don't switch these channels off.
Your old card will revert to the same as a freesat card. :j0
