Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

i think the way you just described is the best value for yourselves. sky look after new customers alot more then current subscribers. so dont tell them your moving, just open a new subscription/account. if you know anybody on sky, tell them to reccommend you, and they will get a sky+ box free aswell (if they already have one, they might just give it to you, and you could have two sky + boxes in one house, which is very handy!!)
when you phone, still haggle, even though your opening a new account, quote prices from telewest (use as comparison to sky prices, i jus make up the figures anyway!! nobody every checks!!)
i think when you phone, dont sound so eager, maybe tell them youve just called telewest for prices, now your seeing what sky has to offer, blag them and say telewest offered you a "special deal" to open today. see how hard sky grovel!!
hope this helps0 -
Just to say after following tips to haggle with Sky I have just been offerred same package (£21 per month) down to £7.50 for the next six months. I had to say to them that I was thinking about cancelling etc but they couldn't have been nicer Im absolutely delighted! thanks0

i dont know how you lot get away with it,everytime i ring sky for an offer its like getting blood out of a stone,6 people later i finally got full package for 30 quid mth for 3 months but i have to pay 10 quid extra for multiroom so 40 quid i guess its better than nothing! hard work though! " i wanna be the minority! " :dance:0

Hi,
I signed up to ntl at uni (the biggest mistake of my life, seriously, don't even consider them!!!) because they were the chepest at the time. We paid £38 for 2Mb broadband, £20 for the telly and £10 for the phone line (all per month) I phoned up to cancel. They offered us the 2Mb broadband at only £17.99/mnth, I said I'd ask my housemates and see. I rang back saying I'd still like to cancel and they offered us a years free phone line rental and 2mb broadband at only £11.99/mnth (would have been a saving of at least £180 a year over even the best prices available at the time) We didn't take up their offer as they were so incredibly bad at customer realtions.
However, I told this to my parents (who have NTl because they dont want a sky dish) so my dad rang up and said he wanted cancel, and straight away they offered him discounted broadband (not sure of the details) and free connection to the full sky sports package, disney package, all sky movies, pretty much every channel!
Although it doesnt make up for their poor service, you can cut your ntl bills by huge amounts if you can put up with them when anything and everything goes wrong.0 -
I phoned Sky yesterday, - don't really want to leave, what can you offer, etc. was told i could reduce my package so i asked for cancellations. William in cancellations said "you've already had 3 months half price (about 6 months ago) can't offer you anything else. Eventually we got 40% off for two months. Not impressed, think I really will cancel when I phone back!0

tried all the freephone and landline numbers mentioned here and on saynoto0870, but none of them work. They have upgraded their system and closed all the loopholes on 0800 numbers.
Anyway, called the usual 0870 number, held for about 4 minutes, asked to cancel because too expensive, put through to another dept, and got 3 months half price.0 -
If you want Sky in another room, you don't HAVE to pay for "Multiroom" at £10/mt - you can get a local TV engineer to connect up a second hand or new Sky box with a FreeSat card (£20) to your existing satellite dish.
Alternatively, phone FreeSatFromSky and for £150 you get a new box, the £20 card, installation and a new dish ("for warranty purposes") - so you have subscription-Sky in your living room and FreeSatSky in your bedroom! (and presumably a spare dish to sell on ebay?!)
Sorry if this has been posted before....
regards

HI
I very much like the idea first posted by WILL_IN_ESTORIL.I to would like to kick Sky in to touch. Please lets have some more views on setting up your own system, like what are the best Satellite Reciever/Dish/LNB/etc. I know very little about this kind of thing, but like a lot of members would be grateful for any help. So come on share your knowledge with us and make us happy.Thanks.0
