Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

I've a bit of good news for you - you'll still be able to get Channel 4, five and Sky 3 after your Sky subscription ends, they don't switch these channels off.
Is that true? I knew I would be able to use the sky box after, but thought FREESAT had a few more channels. I did actually take the sky card out for a couple of days to see how it worked - could not get channel 4 or 5, message came up 'please insert card'!
The best of it is that I shall still be able to record to my dvd recorder from sky box and also view another channel from freeview.0 -
Ive had 3 months at half price and two months with a 40% reduction.
What is there next offer, has anyone got this far yet?
I want to keep sky but only until the footie season finiseh in May so need another couple of months.
thanks0 -

keep the card in and the freeview channels work.
when i moved into my house the couple had left their sky setup and subscription live for me; when i got sent the bill [3 months later] i pointed out they had emigrated and they cancelled the sky but all the freeview still worked. I then reactivated the system in my name [hence i have equipment at least 7 years old]

Thank you for that wigwam12, I shall phone sky tomorrow - hoping that I shan't have to hold on for too long (and get a big phone bill) to see what happens. Even if they offered me a better package for the same price, I won't be tempted - I remember the time only having 3 channels, when broadcast ended around midnight and you had a dot on screen!!0

hi
i got a nice £15 credit by pointing out how much it had cost me to phone on numerous occassions waiting for 45 mins on one call and lots of other calls having to hang up before being put through

After reading this board I called Sky yesterday and saved myself £120 over 12 months.
I have the top Sky package (Sky world I think it's called) plus an extra room subscription so I have been paying over £50 per month for around 3 years now. I called sky customer services and told a few lies that Telewest (my phone and broadband provider) called me and offered me digital TV with free equipment and installation and free subscription for the first 3 months (all lies). The customer services lady put me through to the cancellation dept and I spoke to an extremely nice lady who I told I was 'considering leaving sky' because of the (false) offer made by Telewest. She then started to tell me how good I was as a customer, outlining the time I’d spent with sky. She then said I have some options and said she could half my subscription for three months or knock £10 off my bill for 12 months. I took the latter option as it works out slightly better value.
I recommend anyone, especially those paying over £40 per month to do this with their digital TV/broadband/phone provider as all these companies have loyalty teams and they are pressed to keep their 'high-value' customers. (If you’re on a low package they will probably just call your bluff and close your account without hesitation so be careful). You don't even have to threaten them, just be very diplomatic and say you are thinking about leaving their service. You will save money! I’m about to call Telewest now and threaten that I’m leaving their broadband and phone service.0 -
i cancelled sky recently as i was hoping to try and get sky + as a new customer when i come across someone promoting sky whilst out shopping. however, hubby and daughter cant wait now as they are having withdrawal symptoms. if i ring sky direct (anyone know the new freephone number???) what do you think would be the best offer i could get. dont want movies or sports but entertainment channels and possibly disney??Just about to give up!0

Can anyone advise me please
A sky engineer recently came to fix my system as my screen kept freezing. Due to talks with (aggressive!) lady at sky the engineer did come for free as i said i was going to cancel rather then pay
Sky engineer did bits and bobs with my system and advised that if it started freezing again to be careful with replacement box offered by sky as they are reconditioned and would not be as good quality anyway as my panasonic box.
Predictably screen started freezing again that night  and is getting worse.
My question is this:
Am i better getting replacement box and arguing for 1/2 price deal. (Lady on phone had said that i would have to pay for next engineer visit but after reading previous posts i know i could now talk my way out of that!!)
or
as i am considering getting a sports package (only to watch golf!! so rather expensive) should i consider getting sky+ as this would solve box problem - wouldn't it
However have heard htat sky+ boxes start to fail over time and freeze also and it is difficult to get them fixed:dance:                 :dance:I am finally understanding what money can do for me!0 -
