got sky plus installed today
i see he put a new cable in from dish to box
also why does the telephone line have to be connected all the time
also i have sky in each room linked up by wire and sky eyes
but since today its not working any ideasTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.:D0 -
I have been on the top package for two years and last year bought sky+ myself. as I was on the top package i didn't have to pay the £10 for the record facility to work.
I have just cut right back on my package to 2 choices and got it for half price for the next 6months as I threatened to cancel eg £7.50 instead of £15,
But my biggest gripe is WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY £10 FOR THE RECORD FACILITY.
THE BOX IS MINE NOT SUBSIDISED,
sky are not sending me a second channel they are there in the air,
I could buy a freeview box with HDD recorder and wouldn't have to pay for the record facility,
SKY are conning us all, :mad:0 -

the second cable is because sky+ has 2 built in decoders this is so you can record 2 programmes at once or record 1 and watch another.
the telephone cable doesn't have to be connected at all time the engineers are told to install them, this is used for box office and interactive bits also occasionally the box needs a software upgrade this is done over the phone line as well, NOT REALLY REQUIRED THOUGH
if your other rooms are no longer working check to make sure he put the coax back on the box, the engineer may have left this off
Hope this helps

Decided to cancel Sky as I only watch a couple of programmes - and not bother haggling for a discount as I want to save ALL the money. What I save can buy the DVD box sets when they're discounted in the future.
So phoned up and when they started asking questions as to what channels I watch I said "as I'm paying 8p minute for this call I'd rather not answer questions i just want to cancel cos its too expensive".
So I'm on a 30 days cancellation notice. Two weeks into this, Sky phone up, ask why I'm cancelling (too expensive) and they offer me 6 months half price, no 12 month contract, just have to stay for the first three months. I was tempted but said no (as I have made my mind up to cancel).
Just waiting for another call with 7 days left offering 9 months at half price !!!!
take 6months offer financial year ending soon so you might not get the offer after 31march!
just a thought as you can cancel anytime if you really want to!Honesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site
you are on!
if i had known then what i know now!
a bargain is only a bargain if you really need it!0 -
I have just looked at my latest NTL bill and am paying
£14 TV & telephone service
£5 TV Mid Pack
£9.99 unlimited 1Mb(shows on the bill as £8 discount on the standard £17.99. I recently negotiated this 6 month reduction following advice on the NTL broadband thread.)
I seek advice on two things:
1)I am now considering going digital and would be interested to learn from others what they are paying for an equivalent (to my present analogue) digital TV package.
2)Would I be better off separating the elements and going for different TV, telephone and BB suppliers?0 -
Remember this from Martin's earlier email circular
"I've heard numerous rumours from a number of sources that Sky wants to stop people benefiting from this site's insider info on haggling down the price. As such there is a possibility it will soon change the customer retention's department policy. All Sky users are thus urged to urgently get the available discounts while they can."
I've got a feeling that this is going to happen soon!0 -
Just rang Sky today in a panic after reading this thread and worrying they might stop offering people these things. I've had my Sky since 1998 and have never benefited from a special deal before.
The fella in the call centre was lovely and offered me 3 months at half price or 25% off over another 12 month contract. I opted for the former, thinking that I may get another, even better deal after that!!!!
Fingers crossed!!
P.S - what did I ever do before I discovered MSE?????? :T0 -
I would suggest that nobody if offered the 25% off another 12 month contract to take it,
its another way of sky making you sign another 12 month contract thus not being able to consider cancelling,
£76 in the £2 coin savings jar0 -
i have the 25% off for 12 months but its not a new contract, its also more expensive than having half price for 3 months, but easier as you dont have to ring them every 2 months!Trophies are like Buses, you wait 26 years.
Then 3 come along at once!!!!0 -
Sky HD pricing has been announced. Hope not to pay the £299 for the HD box though - I wonder what that could be knocked down to if you try haggling?0
