Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

Hello All,
I've been with virgin for many years (still have the old NTL box!). My current package is the old 3 for £30 deal:
- Basic Phone
- 10MB Broadband
- TV (L)
I called them today basically saying i've had nothing offered to me and asking when my contract was ending. I was told I wasn't in contract. I then asked what sort of deals they could do me for Sky Sports. I got the following offered:
- Basic Phone
- 10MB Broadband
- New V+ HD Box
- TV (M) + All 4 Sky Sports Channels
£53.99 p/m + One Off £49.99 installation charge
- Basic Phone
- 2MB Broadband
- New V+ HD Box
- TV (XL - no sky sports only ESPN)
£35.49 p/m + One Off £49.99 installation charge
- Basic Phone
- 10MB Broadband
- New V+ HD Box
- TV (XL - no sky sports only ESPN)
£40.29 p/m + One Off £49.99 installation charge
I just told them i'd go away and think about it. I have to say, was very disappointed in the offers. I think they've just offered me the basic deals with no incentives.

After purchasing a HD TV I called sky to see what they could offer for HD. Currently on the 6 mix pack at £24 pcm (have been for about 8 years)
I elf with a discussion around content and primarily freesat, but also streaming services, freeview etc. Obviously there is less HD content but also saving money (all true)
A saving on line rental/broadband was offered but I'm not happy changing now as I need to keep my contract options open for fibre to the cabinet (infinity etc) - I did say if sky was offering this I'd take it up now!
The best I could get offered (which I refused) was
*Either* (only one deal, not both) - both for 12m contract
- 6 months free HD (saving £60) & free sky HD install
OR
- 1/2 price TV for 6 months (but still extra £10 for HD across all mixes) with £15 self-install charge for sky HD
On my package there's only £3 difference so neither here nor there
No offers on the larger capacity 1Tb box
I went ahead with the cancelation so have 31 days left.
* Will sky try chasing me to abandon the cancelation?
* Once the cancelation is effective how long before I can look at new customer offers (though to be honest may stick with freesat)
* Are there any better offers around? Are people offered better?
* Am I going to have a problem if I decide to cancel the cancelation?
* Are these offers quite seasonal? Is now a good/bad time? What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
I have 2xpack and Sky Sports coming in at £40/month plus broadband at £15 (I can't take their line rental deal at the moment). I phoned up to take Sky Sports off (actually wanting the half price deal, etc.) but they would do absolutely nothing for me, no deals whatsoever.0

... and an update, through to cancellations in what soudned like Scotland rather than Stockport, and they gave me the 50% off TV price for 6 months with no contract deal. :T0

I'll be seeing what they have to say tomorrow, just checked and rather than just removing Sky Sports they have also removed ESPN which accounts for about 80% of my TV viewing - to say i'm going to rip them a new one is putting it mildly!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

Their inability to get it right first time round suggests otherwise i'm afraid, especially since they don't really have any excuses - i got the scottish centre (i'm scottish, i could have forgiven an English person not being able to understand me) and was 100% clear & consise the first time round.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
Recently we had a ATT rep show up and offer us this deal. I thought at first it wasnt bad, until after 6 months. He offered Digital Phone, Internet and Digital TV for $109 a month. After looking at other providers, that really isnt bad, until after 6 months. Then the prices shoot to $147.00 a month. So be careful please everyone, and make sure if they state 6 month contract that you hear that.0
