My existing deal - two packs full price plus half price Sports and Movies for three months at £33.50 per month - was due to come to an end on 9 December. I'd been told by the customer services bod who sorted that deal that I should phone a month before that date to see whether there were any new deals and, if there weren't, to give one month's notice to cancel or downgrade. So I phoned a couple of times on the 5 and 6 November, and there was nothing. Phoned again on the evening of the 8th, explained the situation and said that I was looking at effectively cancelling the package as I wouldn't spend £47 for the same package. Chap immediately offered anything I wanted at half price for 6 months. So I've now got all 6 packs, Sports and Movies half price at £25.50. I asked about multiroom (we already had everything set up from a previous multi-room contract which I cancelled last year so it was simply a case of flicking a switch), and while there were no offers to be had, that takes the full cost up to £35.50 a month for 6 months including multi-room.
I suppose it's all about what you can justify to yourself. While there are bits and bobs on all the packages I'd watch from time to time, I couldn't justify spending £51 a month. At half that price, I can. And as adding multi-room took it up to just a couple of quid more than I was already spending for a lesser bundle, I took it. So thanks to a very helpful chap at Sky, I've got myself sorted til next May.0 -
Phoned to cancel as im moving into my first house in a month and want to see how the finances are before getting the best internet/tv/phone deal going.....
After 10 minutes ive got 25% off for a year, without being locked in for another year. Perfect.0 -
I am puzzeled!
It seems people here, when phoning Sky to threaten cancelling, often get offered a new and attractive deal.
In my case, after Sky chopped 75% of my HD channels to satisfy their 'channel alignment' plans and never offered to reduce the subs! When I emailed and said I was cancelling, they said 'OK, and btw we are going to try and take even more money from your bank account after you have cancelled'!
Seems like two different companies!

I have only been with sky for 12 months now. Was on the basic package at £21 a month. Called up yesterday to cancel and was offered sports and movies for 6 months for only £3 more. result. :T0

Was a no go for me. Was hoping to get free movies for over the christmas period. Going to give it till mid december and cancel. Package is in my ex husbands name so I'll hopefully get a package in my own name. Hope that will work anyway. I'm only leaving it till december because I have no analogue aerial and daren't risk having no tv over the christmas holidays x:beer:

Called up the other night and was offered half price subs on the regular TV packages but not on HD channels. Can't complain as it will save £10 per month (3 mixes). I was offered this almost instantly by 'cancellations' dept. I pushed for more but they said this was all they could do. This seems to be the popular discount right now.0

I'll admit, haven't read through the whole thread, but hoping someone can help me?
I have BT Total Broadband and free evening and weekend calls - pay roughly £28 a month including line rental. Contract is up 8th December.
I'd really like a box like Sky + so I can record programmes, and we'd like Sky Sports. I've read that BT vision comes through broadband and so if you're connection isn't good, I'm guessing the quality is poor. I also don't really want to start spend loads more money - but I want to see if there are any good deals to be had from BT or if I'm better off moving to Sky or Virgin?
Any ideas? Cheers

There is a good chance that if you move your phone and broadband to SKY they will give you a good discount for 12months. When we took out HD we moved our phone line to them and we got free line rental for 12 months, half price broadband, free calls and half price SKY subscription for 12 months (+ a free SKY+ HD box)! I'd recommend giving them a ring and ask what they can offer if you move everything over to them.0
