I phoned up on Thursday, went straight through to cancellations, explained that my old sky+ box had died and wasnt prepared to pull out £200 for the new HD box then a further £10 a month HD subs, so i was going to FreeSatHD. The guy on the phone was great, immediately offered me a new HD+ box, no HD subs, free instillation and spare replacement sky+ box... All coming out on Tuesday! Usually i rant and rave when speaking to customer services but this time being polite definately paid. Don't mess around get put straight through to cancellations, they are the people with the power to offer the deals!0

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Wow! I currently have the regular mix and sports with multiroom and my kids have been asking for movies to go back on particularly for Christmas. Well I didn't think I had a hope as I felt I was saying to Sky "Can I add movies and will you make it cheaper than it is at the moment?", but all I did was ring cancellations and say that my husband wanted to cut costs but my kids wanted movies and were there any deals for me? And amazingly he added movies and then cut the cost of the packages by 25% for a year, so we have now got movies and are still saving £4 a month!
Also even if I reduce any of my packages in the year I will continue to receive 25% discount on them.
Result and just in time for the Christmas movie season!0 -

Did you phone up recently and was it daytime or evening? I haven't had much luck with them0 -
in the afternoon today0

I used the freephone number this evening and got through OK too.
Having read lots of pages of this thread I thought I would ring Sky and see what kind of deal I could get if I changed phone, broadband and took up a tv package as a new Sky customer.
The very nice customer service adviser was fairly quick to offer me £7.00 off my monthly subscription for Sky Connect. (If you're not within Skys network area you have to take up the 'Sky Connect' option, normally £17.00/month). I asked what else she might offer me to tempt me to sign up to Sky, rather than go to BT or Virgin (neither of which I had yet spoken to !). She said that that was the only discount she could give me and mentioned that she is only allowed to give this discount to 10% of new customers. She said she would have a word with her manager to see if he could suggest anything else.
I assumed this was normal Sky procedure, but after less than a minute 'on hold', when she came back to me with an offer of 'free installation' (saving me £30) she said that she had worked at the call centre for two years and was not even aware that free installation could be offered. And she did sound sincere to me !
So I'm quite pleased overall - free Sky+HD box (contrary to what you see on their website, the Sky+HD box is the standard issue now) -free installation (£30 one off) and £7/mnth = £114 saving for the year.
So thanks v. much to everyone that's posted on this thread so far with advice and updates with their experiences, gives the rest of us confidence to
'Have a go' at getting a discounted deal. :j0 -
Phoned up to cancel BT Vision yesterday (my contract is until March 2011 but I told them I was not happy with the fact that I couldn't watch it in a second room) and I was offered a new 12 month deal of the Bronze pack for £7.49 p/m plus £3 p/m discount off line rental. This seemed not too bad as the cost if I change my mind in 6 months is minimal and its a £10 saving off what I pay now.0
