  • My Sister ahs been trying to cut costs recently and when I checked, Sky have been putting up the cost of her broadband a lot. It started off free about 6 months ago then jumped to £5 a month which was fine but it's recently been set at £15 a month which is ridiculous.

Phoned them up to complain and once i'd been round the block a bit I said that Virgin could do the same deal (TV, Phone and BB) for about £30 in this area so why would we keep paying £45 for basically the same package with Sky.

They offered an almost 50% reduction - now paying £23.50 for the next 6 months so that's quite a saving and gives more time to check competitors for deals in the meantime.
  • I'm looking for a cheap package deal - we're currently with Virgin and have the M TV, 10mb unlimited Broadband and M phone service for around £30 a month through cable. We're moving house soon and although the area is cabled we're moving to a flat in a converted house and after spending a few minutes on the phone to Virgin today they appear to tell us that we can't get cabled services in our flat (perhaps the building's not wired up and only the people downstairs can get it; I don't know).

Anyway, will be asking the landlord to clarify if any tenants have had Virgin or if the building is capable of getting it in due course, but thought it best to plan for other eventualities.

After looking at some of the bundles on Sky and BT it seems they're either ludicrously over-priced or don't actually give you very much for their cheapest deals.

Virgin always strike me as the cheapest for their bundles, but given the house move we're looking to save pennies, and if Virgin isn't an option we wondered if anyone had seen any decent deals out there. We're happy to go with one company for all three: phone, which we're not fussed about as we use our mobiles anyway, internet which should be unlimited or at least a reasonable allowance each month, and tv which we're not amazingly fussed about, but are open to ideas.

    Any suggestions/best bundles?
  • I've recently moved into my first house and signed up to Virgin Media.

I don't need a landline or broadband as I have access to both in work so I took out the M+ T.V package with the HD box (unsubscribed) for £12.50 per month with a £40 installation fee. I went through Quidco and earned myself £65 whilst doing so. Bargain.
  • Hello all, I have my line rental, talk, BB and tv from Sky and yesterday it was reduced to £33 from £45.
I'm looking for a cheaper deal cos I only need BB and phone. Sky will do that for £26.50 a month.
I'll appreciate a recommendation of a lower price for BB (prefer unlimited as I may watch tv online sometimes).
    Thanks.
  • Hi i have been a viewer of this thread for a while and have rung sky quite a few times to ask if any offers on my account for a reduction or any offers on HD but was always told no. This time i rang to 'cancel' i told them i couldnt afford it and that we couldnt compromise on which packages to get rid of so the best thing was to cancel the whole lot. At first the man told me that he could get me a better deal if i took out their phone and broadband. I told him i was still in contract with talk talk (which i am) and that their cheaper broadband is not available in my area but probably will be in next six months. He then said as i have been a loyal customer for 5 years he can offer me a reduced subscription for 6 months so now instead of £51 per month i am paying £25.50.

I was over the moon - they told me to ring back in 5 months to see if my situation was still the same.

Would like to thank you guys (and gals!) for all your advice - you have saved me loads x
  • I love this site and this forum has reallly helped me today. I'm with Virgin Media, I have XL everything and a V+ HD box. I was paying £62 per month for all that. Called them today and told them that I was thinking of moving to Sky as they were cheaper; HD box, unlimited calls and broadband for £60. I told them that they were also for that price giving me an additional standard sky box and I would have to pay an installation fee of £39. The nice VM guy said that he would wave the installation charge for an additional HD box and reduce my monthly bill to £57.94 all inclusive. I am happy with that especially as the kids and the missus have got used to the on demand stuff and extra's that VM offer. Thanks to everyone for their support and advice.:money:
Just to add it took some haggling and convincing the guy because he wasn't budging initially.

I really would like an upgrade to my broadband connection at the very least

I had a similar problem with my VM broadband and we have XL. It was constantly dropping out and just rubbish. I was always on the phone to them. In the end they sent me the top router that they do free of charge and it's been great. I complained so much that they also credited me back a few months BB payments to. Although it's a hassle always calling them make sure you do each time it plays up (tv as well). THat way it's noted on your records, they credit you back the money for loss of service wach time and it also works in your favour when you come to haggle at the end of your contract. Good luck.
  • Have Sky HD+, box went down last night, so had to be talked through resetting the box because they had some software issues their end. In the end I lost ALL my recordings. I was given £18 off my next sky bill, but it makes me wonder if its a good thing recording programmes this way, if you can lose them at a touch of a button. Also finding that Sky Sports is now C***P and seriously thinking about cancelling this.

  • I've been meaning to ring Sky for ages because of the cost keep going up and noticing the £20 for tv/bb/phone and had a look at this thread before doing so. Just rang the number above (last 0800 number), answered straight away and got a lovely lady who offered me half price tv for 6 months, saving me £12 a month for the next six. Am well chuffed, thanks everyone! :-)

  • I'm after a move to HD, so just called Sky to see what they could do for me. I also want multiroom for the bedroom as currently running off one of those magic eye thingies and the the PQ is rubbish. I mentioned that I was looking to move to HD and was weighing up my options (eg. Sky HD or VirginMedia).

The guy I spoke to was extremey helpful and offered me:

    - FOC Sky+HD box
    - FOC installation (incl. relocation of existing Sky+ box to bedroom)
    - 25% off cost of TV package (currently £51) for 12 months (so a saving of £153)

And he managed to sort me out with install in time for the Ryder Cup, so I'm a happy bunny.

    Cheers!
