Hi all. My contract with Virgin has just expired and I want to renegotiate. They do seem to be the cheapest for what I want.

    I have 2 V+ boxes, XL tv, L broadband and M phone. I pay £46.99 a month for this

The V+ boxes either reset themselves or need resetting about once a week and broadband is terrible. When my son is downloading large files my laptop connection is intermitent. At the moment that is what I'm basing my haggle on.

Any hints as to how to go about this? I managed last year but that was because I found that new customers would end up paying less than me even when their introductory offers had run out!

I really would like an upgrade to my broadband connection at the very least

    Hi,

I had almost the same as you but with L phone (we were paying £58), we were in the process of Switching to Sky which worked out at £40 the basically the same as Virgin - but with only free HD - and Sky Variety & Kids.

They offered the same as we have now (2 V+ boxes, XL Tv, L Broadband, L phone) , for just under £40 a month and a few extras like caller ID, new Router etc... but I had to actually cancel to get them to match Sky's price.
  • Hi all,

I've been 12 months with Sky already, with variety pack, Sky Sports and HD pack. I've been paying £46.00 during all this time, and is going up to £49 this month. But after receiving the letter about the HD alignment (meaning more than half of the channels would be lost and still I would be required to pay the £10 for HD) I decided to act quickly. Today I phoned to cancel my subscription and explained that I wanted the whole HD channels with only one entertainment pack. Not only they accepted this requiriment for the next 12 months, as well they will discount a 25% every month, meaning the total bill instead of £49 will be £36.25. I thought it was a good deal, I keep all my HD channels with one entertainment pack and the 4 Sky Sports channels in HD.

    Carlsorff,
I find myself much in the same boat.
Not happy with Sky anyway, that letter saying they were pulling a lot of the HD channels from me just tipped the balance.
Afterall they sold me the original deal based on the HD content.
I guess the Sky lawyers worked late checking how they can get away with that!
It seems you have secured a sweet deal.
I am getting a strong impression that the telephone agents have some simple instructions for when customers phone to cancel. Maybe something like "Make sure they don't cancel and offer them what you have to keep them"!
I am encouraged to ask for the earth when I phone!

  • I have Sky+ with variety pack, sports pack and music pack and phoned them the other day to 'cancel' on the off chance of any offers and after half an hour of battling i was given two choices to tempt me from canceling:

Free HD box and installation but no HD channels

    or

Free HD box, £30 to get an engineer to install and 6 months HD free.

I told them my Sky+ box was playing up and faulty (which it isn't) and that there was no point in having Sky if i had a broken box.

I dont have any sort of Sky protection plan to cover repairs or anything and if im offered the above just like that why would i?

Hi, after reading this forum I decided to call sky and say I wanted to cancel. I was imediatly offered 1/2 price TV for 6 months meaning I save £21.50 per month!

    So very happy!

I'm with Virgin and have the following Bundle:
    *tephone line rental £11.99
    *phone/TV/BB bundle saving £-9.50
    *Phone 'M'
    *BB 'M' £20.50
    *TV 'L' £12.50
TOTAL £35.48 (with ancient NTL box)

After haggling was offered exactly the same package for £17.99. Not too bad I thought but I wasnt offered any better TV package (XL) and no free V+ or V+ HD box, which most ofther hagglers seem to have acheived. Any idea what I should say to get the extras I'm after?

    Cheers
  • Rang sky today to reduce costs, currently hv sports plus 1 pack at £39 plus b/band and skytalk. Best they could offer was 20% off tv package for 6 mnts = £7.80 per mnth saving:). Definitely worth a call...but would hv liked 25%-50% that others have been given.

Ok so I have neither Sky or Virgin what would be the best approach as the deals I seam to be offered with Virgin anyway are dear than the offers you seem to be haggling for.
I would get free install, free weekend call 65 channels, unlimited download BB and its £29.50 + £11.99 line rental + ££41.49 no extra TV deals they are add ons???
Am I in the wrong thread too?
