Ok, but the only Free To View channel that you'll lose (in the absence of a valid Sky card), is Sky3.

You see the thing is, they listed a number of channels that I'll lose and all of them were chanels that I never watch. We'll see what happens and will update

Only Sky3, Five US and Fiver are currently FTV. These are channels you'll lose in the absence of a valid Sky card. (Sorry I forgot to mention Five US and Fiver in my previous post).

Five used to be FTV but it is now FTA, as is Channel 4, More4 and E4. FTA channels require no card in order to view.

Currently have : 16mb broadband, Sky line rental, Sky Talk Unlimited, basic TV packages (no Sports of Movies) and we're paying around £50ish a month.

I want to upgrade to HD, Mutiroom, Sports and Movies. Do any of you guys have similar packages - and how much do you get it for?

    Thanks.

Can somebody please advise we currently have SKY+ with the sports package and in the backroom we have Virgin and the broadband is with them but we are paying too much a month with both, we have 3 new TV's upstairs installed now and we would like SKY+ with them all, what is best to say to them to get the best deal we would like the sports with them as well, ideally would like HD on one of the TV's upstairs but it doesnt matter with the other 2, plus would like to get the phone and broadband with the package (but fast broadband) would they do all this for a cheapish deal?
  • Never pay for Sky repairs !
i had a Sky HD box about 4 or 5 years ago when it first came out. no problems for ages then recently started getting a very poor picture.
rang the service dept who talked me through some 'hidden' menus to try and fix things, nothing worked so she said i would need an engineer call out at £65. I said I would thing about it.
in the meantime I got a very nice offer from Virgim Media for a new V+ HD box (that records 2 channels while watching a third) for £10 less than i pay on Sky, ok i need to pay £75 for the new box but i figure what the heck, they want 65 quid for a call out - the virgin box is covered for all repairs forever for FREE.
Friday night ring Virgin and order new V+ Box installation and might as well upgrade broadband as well as i am getting 2 monthe free as well !
    Then the dreaded Sky call.
got through to cancellations, suddenly i can have an engineer on Sunday for free ! i said no as i had already booked my new service from Virgin - it took me nearly 20 minutes to convince her i was cancelling !

the moral - if you have a fault , ring up to cancel, they have the 'power' to over ride and charges !!!!!
    good luck !;)

We're on the basic package, everything but movies, sport, disney. I called yesterday to see if there were any offers and had an half-price upgrade to the full package for 3 months. £34.50 per month. I didn't threaten to cancel, just asked.
  • Hi

Quite a complicated set-up in our house.

Virgin broadband, and a V Box upstairs in bedroom. The V Box could really be taken out as it's connected to an IDTV.

A Sky+ box in one room and a normal Sky box in another room downstairs.

We have a cable line through which we subscribe to First Telecom.

The Sky+ box has recently developed a problem with freezing so we are going to change that box to either a Sky+HD or V+HD box.

My Dad would like all the Sports, Movies and ESPN if possible.

What would be the most cost-effective way of doing this?

    Thanks.

  • We've got a Sky HD, a Sky+ and a standard Sky box with a TiVo, plus a fourth box that is un-subbed. We've also got broadband that costs us another tenner a month. Only subbed to the variety pack plus HD pack.

As they were putting up the broadband price by a fiver if I didn't sub to sky talk, I felt this was the right time to trim things down a bit. So about ten days ago I called them to cancel the HD pack and cancel the multiroom on the standard box. They asked why, but didn't even try and talk me out of it

Of course, now the HD box has decided to not come out of standby unless I power cycle it beforehand, and fail most of it's recordings in the process.. It's about the fourth or fifth box we've had. as soon as we've caught up with the recordings it's managed to do, I'm going to be onto them again. I'd just swap it over for a spare Sky+ box I got for a tenner second hand, but suppose I should see if I can talk them into another free repair.
  • We were reluctant to go for Sky at all, the best that the Sky HD salesman in Meadowhall could offer me was free installation, and the HD box for £49 ("this offer won't last long", he told me!).

Ended up ordering Sky+ HD online through Quidco instead, we got £150 cashback (validated but not paid yet), £25 M&S vouchers, free installation, and paid £49 for the HD box. We took the full Sky Movies HD half price offer, so we're paying £36 a month and think we've got all the HD channels apart from sports, which we're not interested in.
