I am looking for a little bit of advice. I have Sky + under contract. The contract has some way to go but it looks like I am going to moving shortly. What would Sky charge me for the move? Would they just charge me there standing move fee and continue the contract at the new place or would they slug me the cancellation fee for the contract and then a move fee? If they are going to slug me for both then I might cancel it altogether or get my partner to ring up and set up a new account at our new place? Anyone have any suggestions.

Just the move fee, was around £40 the last time I used it, contract wasn't extended.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • Just to let you know. I think I read on here a little while ago that when you cancel sky and they eventually cut you off, that the sky + continues to work. It doesn't. I switched to virgin and very happy with it and sky have eventually got around to switching off the box. I still get all the free to view channels which is good enough but the sky+ features don't work and a message comes up saying that you have to subscribe. Can't play the programmes that we have recorded either. Shame as it would be nice to have my cake and be able to eat it too.

We have had ordinary sky for over 20yrs now , but have found it freezes & sticks , then we have to pull out the socket etc to get it back. This happens at least twice a day , rang Sky said they would moniter it ..
Was hoping they would offer us a new sky+ free of charge , no such luck , will have to threaten to leave & be prepared to follow it thro.
Also does anyone know if sky+ operates the same way as the old sky box , ie , when I go to bed I programme several channels to switch over automatically by putting the red dot on ..
When I stayed up my sons I couldnt do this with his sky+ it just switched itself off..did I moan lol...

If you unplug the Sky box and card and leave it for a good while ( I had mine out for a year as I got another box with a deal) it definitely works. Mine is a 3rd generation box by the way, not sure if they all do this.

The recording function works perfect for me but the pausing live TV doesnt for some reason.

I read elswhere that on the day of disconnection they send an off signal to the card, so as you say if it is not plugged in then nothing changes. The thing is though they keep sending the signal. But they must give up after a few weeks that's why yours is unaffected. I got my timings wrong. I read also that they are sending out new cards in April so it will be interesting to see if yours still works. I hope so mate but just in case you better catch up with your recordings on your planner.

Picked this tip up on another forum:
just letting you all know about a little cheat if you have a spare sly plus box..if you ring sly and tell them your card is damaged ie your kid has pulled it out and snapped it.
they will send you a new card at the cost of a tenner, and they only switch off the premium chanels on the old card,BUT STILL leave the recording function active.so you can put the old card in a second box and use it as a FREEVIEW RECORDER,,.RECORDS ch4 and 5now as well...mines been doing this now for 12months.
As far as I understand it will also play back all the FTA channels you may have recorded but not premium channels

    Kevin

What if you cancel your account? Does the first viewing card then lose it's record facilities, as does the new viewing card?
I did this. I called Sky and told them my viewing card was damaged and they sent me a new one. The old viewing card lost it's subscription channels, and FTV channels (:(). However, FTA channels are, of course, still there - and I can use all Sky+ facilities in respect of them.

Posted this on one of the other Sky threads on MSE, but seems more appropriate on this thread.

First off, thanks to everyone for all the advice and accounts of your dealings with Sky on the various threads on MSE on this subject. Read them all and was inspired to take action and contact them and see if they could help.

This was hastened by the fact our old box "died" recently after playing up for a while. It spluttered back into life for a bit, but isn't reliable any more. I was quoted £65 for a visit by the Sky Engineer.

So I rang cancellations and truthfully told them I had had a period of ill health before Christmas which had meant half-pay and so things were tight financially for a bit. I told them that my job involves travel, which it does, so I don't always get to see what I want to watch. All true. I said I couldn't afford the £65 for a replacement old-style box. I told them I was thinking of cancelling and wanted to know how to go about it.

The operator was extremely nice & helpful and said straight away that they could give me Sky plus for £15 and no installation fee. :D She said she could see I had been a loyal customer and wanted to help me. I said I'd heard Sky plus was £199, but she said it was then, but wasn't now.

I only had to wait a few days until the engineer came and did the install. I've also had a receipt through the post from Sky, confirming they've only charged me £15.

Really pleased with this, as I was panicking when the old box died and I thought I was going to have to shell out £65 to put it right.

Thanks again for all the advice, everyone.:T Just sorry that this hasn't worked out so well for all of you on MSE.
Big thanks to Martin Lewis for helping us start to sort out our finances!!!:A

    Best Comp win:X-Box 360!!

And thank you to all posters! You're wonderful!

Does anyone know if sky have recently offered anyone on here cheap sky for a few months? If they are existing customers and thinking of leaving?

Hi after a bit of messing around I have got

SkyHD box £49, £10per month HD subs,£10 multiroom subs
Free phone line for a year and free eve and weekend calls
    Broadband Max for a tenner.

Works out same price as I am paying now for those things without HD.

A contractor engineer came round to fix my old plus box (which is still not right) but he was saying that they will be scrapping the 10 HD charge at some point, upgrading everyone off standard sky to plus (for free but can see there being some charge) and that now is the time to get the $49 box as there will be a newer updated version of the box which will probably be more expensive and come with installation charge etc. After the usual mess arounds HD coming on1st May - they have a big qu at the moment.
