  • My current tv/telephone/broadband package with Virgin Media was costing me £45 a month which included £3.50 for free evening and weekend calls and £1.50 for 25% discount on any calls to mobiles. I rang them this morning to say I was thinking of leaving as there were cheaper packages and was considering just going with Freeview (I find I dont use any of the extra channels now as most are on freeview anyway). I was very quickly offered to be immediately changed onto a package with Freeview, same Broadband, same telephone plus all the extra bits for £25 a month less another £1 should I get my bills online. A minimum of £20 a month saving! If you are not watching all those extra channels its well worth switching. Otherwise its def worth a call, if you have been with them for a while you will save money.
  • We have just ordered Sky+ as we are moving from a cabled area to a non-cabled area. I called them yesterday and managed to get the following:

    Sky+ free box and install
    £15 credit
    6 mixes
Sky Sports 1 (didnt want all of the SS channels as I only watch football)
    for £23.63 a month

    Hope that helps :-)
  • I thought they were playing a game of bluff ... and then they canceled my package for me. I was armed with my information about Virgins offers, all I wanted was a sky+ box and free line rental in return for giving them my phone as well as my TV and BB. The nice man asked what I was going to do about my BB when I said I wanted to cancel and after I sadi I was going to Virgin he put the wheels in motion and canceled my package.

So I now need advice on a few things:
    1. Am I now a new customer for Sky (I'm on a months notice period)?
    2. Is my wife a new Sky customer if I use her name?
    3. Has anyone negotiated any good deals during their notice period?
    4. Are Sky likely to send me some "sorry your leaving" offers before my notice period ends?
    5. Can I cancel my cancelation?

Or should I use this as the catylist to leave Sky?

My current (well at least for the next month) package with Sky is:
    TV 4 chanel mix - £19.50
BB Mid - £5 (going up to £10 in March)

Phone is with BT with no additional services.

    Advice

Out of interest, can you get Virgin cable in your area?
  • Yes, and we may go back to them as the only reason we left them a couple of years ago was that the Sky box was much better than the NTL one we had at the time and NTL didn't want to replace it for free.

To Sky customers-the best way of getting the cost of yout tv down for a limited period (if you are lucky- i was) is to tell them you are finding it expensive just now and you want to reduce your package. You are most likely to get something if you are on the full package.
They may ask you if you will miss it/if you enjoyed the channels, or something similar. The trick is to say that you really enjoyed/you will miss them/you watched a lot, basically anything positive.
If you just say you werent watching much, you are much less likely to get anything. If they dont give you anything, you can always say you will have another think about it, rather than them reduce your package. You can always try again.
  • Just been on to Virgin to see if I can have L BB and extra box (multiroom). Price quoted is £51.45. Told my existing package (£35.95 for XLTV, M BB, Phone line rental, Talk Unlimited, free voicemail) should have terminated after 12 months but they have kept me on (out of the goodness of their hearts). Could I get this cheaper?

Get a free Sky+ Box and, more importantly, free installation.

Go to this specific web-site page:

    sky.com/myoffer

Enter the following code in the box in the top right hand corner:

    SALE140068031302

    Offer end 12th February 2009
Is there a monthly charge for the Sky+ box after the free installation etc?
We're on full Sky package-I must get rid of the children's pack and save £1!
    Thanks.

Slightly off topic, my parents want Sky+ but can't get Sky to do them a deal as existing customers. I have a Sky+ box from just moving so they have taken it. If I just add another line and replace to a quad LNB will it just work on there viewing card or do they have to pay some sort of extra subscription?

    Thank
  • We are not very good with technology in our house so please excuse my ignorance if this is obvious or a daft question! I have normal Sky and want to record it onto my PVR Topfield box, does anyone know if this is possible? If so how it should be connected? Thanks :p
