    Hello everyone

In the ARGOS cat, there is a one-off payment SKY box package at £75. The blog reads "200 channels" but I am having difficulty in trying to find a list of these channels. Does anyone know of one that they could kindly post a link to, if at all possible?.

    Thank you in advance

    Jon

It's a bit misleading, they seem to imply that you will get all the Sky channels. But after a 4-month trial of "4 of the most Entertainment mixes", you have to pay £19 per month "to continue to receive Sky". That would be a 50p reduction in the advertised price for 4 mixes. 200 channels would probably include all the mixes + free-to-view channels.

There is a list of the free-to-view channels on the Sky website, follow the links on the left to find the other channels that are chargeable as part of a Mix.

"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

    Hi Ka7e

Many thanks for the link. I even went through the SKY site to find that, but couldn't for some reason.

Yes, the ad in the cat says 200 channels. I new it would be the free channels with non of the subscription channels. So if I understand correctly, even though the blog says £75, some 200 channels, pay once - watch forever, you still have a subscription charge to follow?

Ah, that makes more sense now. I looked up on that SKY box package. You make a one-off payment of £75 and thats it. That price includes the box, dish and set up, and the 200 channels. You get a selection of 4 popular SKY mixes for 4 months. After 4 months you can either continue with the subscription, or continue with the free 200 channels.

Did you phone and try and cancel or just upgrade? Im moving home soon and may use that as a bartering tool to get V+ installed for free as currently have what you got for £37/month but not V+!

I just rang so see if they could offer me a better deal ,as i was still in the middle of a contract, it's tying me in for another 12 months though.
  • Hi all, I'm currently with VM and have been for a year with a V+ box already. Been trying to haggle some deals between sky and them and the best I have is:

    SKY

Free Sky+ box with free installation
    2mb Broadband
    Free evening and weekend calls
    Line rental
    3 enterainment packs

    £28.50 per month

    VIRGIN

    XL tv package
    M Broadband (2mb)
M Telephone inc line rental (Free weekend calls only)

    £32 per month

Anyone got any thoughts on which deal is best or think I can get a better deal??? Sky sounds better but it's the hassle of changing over and lost Virgin music on demand which is quite cool

The V+ offers HD and upscales if you have a HD TV, the Sky+ is SD only.

The V+ has 3 tuners, the Sky+ only 2. Thus with the V+ you can record 2 channels and watch a 3rd.

The phone package you list is better on the option you have with Sky, than VM, extra £3.45 on VM to add evening calls.

The TV package you list on VM is better than the Sky 3 mixes, the VM package is like the Sky 6 mixes but also includes Setanta.

The 2Mbit broadband with Sky is capped to 2GB a month, the 2Mbit on VM does not have a monthly hard cap, just for a few hours in the evening if you download more than 0.5GB then your speed is slowed down to 1Mbit and for 5 hours and if you download more than 1GB during the few hours in the daytime again your speed is slowed down to 1Mbit for 5 hours, at other times your downloads aren't checked, this still means you can download many GBs a month.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • Thanks Bextech, think I'll stick with Virgin then!

To previous poster I just phoned up and said already got v+ and don't want to pay for another box and they said fine pretty much! Told me had to jump through some hoops saying didnt want to buy at £99 or £49 and said ok can do it for free. Basically keep pushing and they are allowed to drop it to free it seems!

Just hope Virgin get ruthless cutting off analogue so the rest of us can have more HD channels!!
  • I had already seen on skys website that I could get my phone line rental for £10.00 (instead of paying BT) with free evening & weekend calls. mid broadband 8GB for £5 per month, which is already a good deal. I already have the 2 mix sky tv for £17.50. I wanted to get all of the above from one provider, I read posts about people getting offers from sky so I took the advice about speaking to sky so i tried the upgrades dept, they told me there was nothing they could do even if I took out my broadband & phone out with them., they were not helpful at all!
I then rang the same number and asked to speak to someone about leaving sky, I got through to a nice man who offered me free phone line rental for the next 12 months then after that £10 as stated on the web. There should also be a £50 connection fee for mid broadband which he waived, I didnt have to ask for any of this I just stressed that money was tight and was considering leaving sky for virgin / bt.
I used this number that somebody posted a few days ago today to call sky 02079 799 500

I used the advice of being nice to the operator and 50 minutes later I got the deal I wanted:j Phone and BB for 1 year £5 per month, £15 thereafter, still much cheaper than I pay now! Thanks to all those who have given their advice :T
  • Hi there, I've just tried to sign up for a deal with virgin media. After the screen which said that they had to do a credit check i got another one saying that one of their staff will call me to ask a few more questions and do some more checks. Does this mean that the check has not gone through okay or is this usual practice? Just wondered if this had happened to any one else.
