    Called Sky last week to enquire about HD after gadget mad OH got an HD TV at Christmas time (Really good COSTCO deal with free 5 year warranty normally £100 min) . Was very unhelpfully quoted £99 for box and £60 for installation with no sign of them budging which showed existing customers getting hit again! :( Took this site's advice and phoned late last night (Wednesday)to cancel multiroom as they are about to put our broadband up and we needed to balance it out. Called the geographical number on Say No To 0870 (so saving the 0844 call cost) and got straight through to a really nice lady who not only offered half price multiroom for 6 months but on the muttered mention of saving up for HD also offered free HD installation and £30 credit on the account so effectively the box is £69! She then offered to install our existing Sky+ upstairs replacing the regular multiroom box, with the additional cable run in free and done when the HD box is being installed. :T Very happy with result as we'll only pay £3 more than at present for a much better set up for the last 6 months. For the first 6 it's cheaper. Thanks to Martin and his Sky insider for he very good advice.

    Hi silver 1,

    Thanks for that, I will ring Virgin back tonight to see if I get a more helpful member of staff and use your info as ammo.

    Will post back to let you know how I get on.

    Thanks again

  • Phoned vm up on Tuesday and said i wanted to upgrade from my " 2 for £20" package as i've found out my mother's friend (a little white lie, quoted deal from here...) is currently getting a much better deal for only £11 more a month and a v+ box for £30.
    She told me the best she could offer me was:-
    TV - XL
    BB - M
    Phone - M
    V+ Box - £30 installation
    Total = £37 p/m
    I said i'd ring back, so yesterday i tried again this time saying I knew someone on this deal (also quoted from here):-
    TV - XL
    BB - L (10 MB)
    Phone - L (Free evenings and weekends)
    V+ Box - £30 installation
    Total = £36 p/m
    He said yes he could offer me that but not the £30 pound installation, that would have to be £75. Told him i'd been offered it for £30 yesterday so he checked my account and agreed I could actually have it for £30 WOOHOO!!
    I was also offered this cheaper deal:-
    TV - XL
    BB - M (2 MB)
    Phone - M (Free weekends)
    V+ Box - £30 installation
    Total = £31 p/m
    The only thing i couldn't get either of them to budge on was the cost of adding the movies which is £15 for 1 package or £19 for both, wondered if anyone has had better luck with this...

    So there is haggling to be done, you just have to know your facts and be persistant :) Also it maybe easier to haggle up your package rather than down, i don't know.

    p.s. I have been with vm for 1 1/2years but was currently in the middle of a 12 month contract

    GOOD LUCK
  • I have sky+ for which I pay £37 per month. My broadband and phone is with BT. I was looking at Virgins V+ deal - which I believe is hi def and it seems really good to me. I was going to ask sky about changing to HD and including my phone and broadband. Any advice about how to go about his without having to pay the instal fees and extras that they charge or should I be looking at Virgin. Basically i want to upgrade to HD for as little as poss. Not going to have the movie channels this time. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Hi All,

    Don't what the girl I spoke to last night was on... but spoke to retentions again tonight and with absolutely no haggling or arguing I got the V+HD box for £30 installed :confused:

    Anyway, I now have:
    BB Medium
    TV XL
    Phone XL
    for £39.95
    This is down by a further £1 by opting for no paper bills so its £39 :T

    Happy with this TBH

    HTH someone

    Cheers

    Hi all,

    I just rang up to cancel my sky package (with movies and sports and bb mid at £51 a month). The guy offered me full entertainment mix at the price of just one mix, ie £16.50, plus free line rental for 12 months which i currently pay £10.50 to BT. No matter what I said he would not budge on the price of sports and movies and would not go under £42. I only asked for it to be lowered to £40. I was on the phone for 40 minutes and eventually decided not to keep the sports and movies as all we seem to do everyday is channel hopping aimlessly. So I'm now paying £21.50 a month in total including my broadband and line rental plus the entertainment mixes. Does anyone think this is a good deal? Have sky stopped this thing with giving people half-price deals if they're becoming unemployed?

    Also sky seem to be very tight lately on reducing subscriptions there doesn't seem to be many successful reports on people managing such a fete. Does anyone know of a good way of sorting this out?

    At least the silver-lining for me is that i was specifically told that I was not tied in to another 12-month contract so that I could still cancel anytime i want. I just rang back and a different operator confirmed this.

    Thanks for any suggestion in advance :rolleyes:
  • Hey all,

    I just rang Sky at shock horror I said I was gonna leave for BT. They offered the basic mix normally £16.50 for £7 if I dropped to one package which is fine cos I rarely watched the other one.

    At the moment I pay £18 a month so this is a saving of £33 for 3 Months by which time I can arrange for a better package again!!!

    Bargain
    Debt Total on 02/12/2008 - £14978
    Debt owed on 19/03/2009 - £14027

    (Make £10 per day in april total £388.67)

    Hello everyone

    In the ARGOS cat, there is a one-off payment SKY box package at £75. The blog reads "200 channels" but I am having difficulty in trying to find a list of these channels. Does anyone know of one that they could kindly post a link to, if at all possible?.

    Thank you in advance
