  • On 01/02/09 Virgin Media will be changing a number of its packages - one of the major impacts of this is that some of the higher tier broadband and combined packages with the higher tier broadband will become cheaper. None of the reductions in package prices are being passed onto existing customers.

The big change is that the broadband size L (10 meg) on its own will reduce by £4/month. The XL (20 meg) and XXL (50 meg) on their own will reduce by £1/month.

The bundles including the L broadband are decreasing (remember the solus XL and XXL broadband are decreasing though) - the bundles including the L broadband will go down by £2 - the range of changes is wide so best to check the website on Sunday when the changes happen.

These are not promotional offers but ongoing price decreases.

I would reckon it would be worth checking the website and calling Virgin on Monday when the customer relations (retentions) department opens and asking why you aren't receiving the new prices. Number to call is 150 or 0845 454 111 - select the option for disconnection for the best results.

On the bundle deals it looks as though a new 12 month contract may be required, it is not as clear cut on the solus prices. Although we should make it very clear that these are permanent reductions and why aren't they being rolled out to everyone?

There is a link on the current virgin media website http://www.virginmedia.com/wehearyou/ which states all bundle deals are available to existing customers so use this tactic to your advantage.

If you are on M broadband this is a great oppurtunity to upgrade to L broadband on the cheap - should work out about £3-£4.50 - check the website on Sunday for details.

Thanks for this. just joined up on Friday and they are coming to install on the 12th so will check the site tomorrow and call them up to get it cheaper.
  • I rang Sky on 2 January to give my notice for cancellation, saying that as I now had more work away from home I couldn't really justify the monthly subscription costs when I would hardly ever watch television at home. The woman mentioned Sky+, and I said it sounded just the thing for me - particularly as I was going to miss the films on Sky - but I said it was too expensive all in one go.

I was confidently waiting for a call in the past few days to ask me to stay, and to offer me deals as this happened two years ago when I rang to cancel and actually meant it that time. However, here I am today on cancellation day, with no phone calls from Sky!

Well, not to worry - I'll leave it for a bit and then ring them up myself and ask if there are any deals to encourage me to rejoin.

I have done that a couple of times but never had a phone call, have you tried ringing again now that they have the HD offer on
  • Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't have an HD tv. I was going to wait and see if the MSE weekly email had any further details from Sky following their pulling of last week's deal.

    HI all

I have been with sky(+) for 3+ years paying about £42 for SkySp plus all mixes. Am looking to get a better deal basically - also would be prepared to move Broadband, phone line and calls to them as well so have that up my sleeve. Anyone else done this recently and what success have you had?

Am considering HD or multiroom if they can get me that. I will basically work out a per month cost after everything they put in to assess whether I will take any deal offered. Virgin offering the £38 for 3 months then 45 + phone line rental plus £50 credit etc so that could also be a bargaining tool?

Any recent sucess? Will let you know how I get on

I just went to cancel as the sky box has completey died after almost 5 years. Got through to sky tech who said that the standard box was going to be £65 for an engineer to check it and repair or give a reconditoned one with 90 day guarntee asked to be put through to cancellation department as I am not going to pay that and would rather cancel and maybe rejoin later if I had the money

Put on hold for 10-15 mins and cut off
Rang back and the cancellation department offererd me either £15 for a standard box or sky+ box with free instalation

Got the sky+ box as apparently it doesnt cost any extra on subscription if you already subscribe and you have so long to cancel it

Only thing is almost a month wait. I have paid £17.50 so I might have to ask what is going to happen to this months subscription I have already paid as I have no box to watch sky but at least at the end of it I will have sky back on
Needing to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans
