Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

Hi,
Just been on the phone to retentions. I called up and cancelled my Virgin Package as I am currently paying around £33 per month for:
XL Phone
M Broadband
M TV
I think this is too much and managed to get offered the following deals:
£26.49
XL Phone (Talk unlimited)
M Tv
L Broadband - 10mb
V+ for a one off payment of £30
I pointed out that if I go with Talk Talk I get
Phone - Unlimted UK National Calls
Broadband - 8mb
for £16.99
then i go with Top Up Tv+ for £9.99
Total: £26.98 per month
it gives me effectively:
Virgin Phone XL
Virgin Broadband L - 10mb
Virgin V+ with L Tv
I refused the deal and told them I would go with Talk Talk. I don't think retentions will call back either despite the fact it costs them absolutely nothing to keep me and they are losing a loyal customer for over 10 years.
Has anyone managed to get anything similar?0 -

£75 + £60 instalation = £135
Their was a hint of this a few weeks ago but it's definitely available at the moment from the 'Sky guy' in the shopping precincts. No way around the £60 instalation though.... comes with HDMI leads and they are happy to move your Sky + to another room. Don't know how long this deal will last but mines coming Friday (5 day wait). About time they thought of existing customers !!!!!
:beer:A bargain is something you don't need at a price you can't resist.0 -
I just have SKY+ with a basic package - so I assume I will get hit another £10 pm at least in addition?
I'd only find it worth considering as an additional subscription if it included Multiroom for my existing SKY+ box.
Sky Movies limited interest - would PPV on worthwhile films but rarely see films I am interested in. Sky sports no interest at all.
Looking really hard at the new Panasonic 42" Plasma with built in freesat here......0 -

£10 multiroom AND £10 HD subscription. Sky are good at "hoiking" in new customers, and carp at keeping their existing ones happy.0 -

Totally agree - thats why I waited for them to reduce the HD box.... I've been with them for 11 years and refused to pay more for it than a new customer. I already have multi-room so after the initial outlay it's an extra tenner a month.... ditch some of the crap channel packages and watch the ones you want in HD to make it cost neutral(ish).A bargain is something you don't need at a price you can't resist.0 -
I have just rung them up to ask for this and the man said categorically there is no way he can offer me a HD box for £75. Explained that a 'friend' had got it off the chap in town and he said they can't possibly have as they can't do it.
Grrrr. I was happy to upgrade for that price. Even offered to have multiroom and sky talk to get it for £75.
My haggling technique must need some work :-(0 -

Don't ring them - go and see the 'Sky guys' in the shopping precincts... they seem to have better deals than online or telesales.;)A bargain is something you don't need at a price you can't resist.0 -
Are there any Sky HD channels which actually make it worth the bother of getting this? I have an HD TV (1080i) but don't know if it is worth the extra £10 a month for a few channels of HD?
At £75+£60+£120 it will cost £255 in the first year even at this bargain price, which is a lot of dosh unless you get some exceptional channels. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
