I assume you are then tied to a twelve month contract, and possibly a minimum package?

Would be good to get more details x
    Gone ... or have I?

What's the best time of day to contact VM to get the price down. I don't want to spend forever on hold.

I've just discovered that we are paying more than the advertised full prices for our services!!!
  • I hope this may help anyone out there trying to save a few quid.

My original package was 6mix and extra sub £31 p.m

and Setanta (only for boxing) £12.99 p.m

Rang Setanta 0191 5013601 to cancel but was offered £7.50 p.m for 6 months

Rang Sky reduced to 4 mix (£2 less pm) and was offered the extra sub for half price for 6 months

    Total saving each month £12.49

Its always worth trying. I was prepared to give up Setanta and the extra sub if necessary but the saving changed my mind (for now)

I rang sky not expecting anything but got sky talk anytime free for being a loyal customer, the woman also mentioned they are looking at getting another 18 HD channels by the end of the year and they would be surprised if they passed many onto VM.

Well I doubt at the moment they'd pass their own HD channels over to VM.

However they couldn't stop other broadcasters doing deals with VM to carry their HD channels. Sky might 'pay' some channels to go exclusive to satellite for a while - but that's all they could do.

VM however have said they have no interest in carrying any more HD channels and they think VOD will save them!

Remember Sky own no satellites, Sky don't 'carry' channels like cable does.

Sky, ITV, BBC, Ch4, Five and all other broadcasters lease capacity on satellites from SES Astra or Eutelsat, they then pay an uplink provider (Sky also have up-link facilities, not everyone uses them, not by a long shot) - so they don't have to involve Sky here at all. If they want an EPG number on a Sky box, then they pay Sky a yearly fee for this. They may decide they want to become part of a subscription package, they can either like Setanta or the Adult type channels run the subscription themselves or they could ask Sky to collect the subscription and they get a cut out of it - hence your 6 mixes for example, each channel in these mixes gets a cut of the subscription Sky collects.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
