I currently have Sky+ and received an e-mail from Sky last week with the following:
All your friend needs to do is join Sky TV by Monday June 16th 2008, they’ll get a Sky+ box for FREE. And once their Sky account’s live, we’ll arrange to deliver and set up yours.

If you already have Sky+ yourself. for each friend you introduce to Sky, we’ll give you £50 of Marks and Spencer vouchers instead.

If you are interested pm me.

Thanks for that but I've already tried it and I am not classed as a new customer because foolishly I rang sky when I moved to inform them of my new address!! d'oh!!

Yes, FREE SKY+5 XX ; where the red XX's are a number and a letter. I would assume that they are specific to my account and not a general "one code for anyone".

It said offer ends on 29th June.

Additionally, the point made earlier about sky reducing prices when freesat pvr is launched is probably spot on, however it will be too late then as once customers invest in freesat with no ongoing fees; why would they move to sky?

    *****UPDATE******
The code is specific to an individual account; in reality you do not need to quote it, as they can tell be your address if you have been offered the deal.

I contacted sky and they told me that looking at my account I had not been offered the deal :-(
The best I could get is a sky+ box and installation for £99.
  • I just tried to get SKY to cut my monthly bill by telling them I wanted to cancel my account. They said " Thanks. bye" so I said I'd think about it and asked if they had any deals going they said no phone back in a few weeks. After I had hung up I rememberd a post on here from a long time ago stating that to get the best deals you had to ring on certain days. If you ring on the right day you got a good deal, ring on the wrong day and you got nothing. From memory it was Wednesday/Thursday for the good deal...I tried today( Monday)
  • After seeing Martins artical 8 months ago REF: Get sky for a one of payment of £75 in Currys with free channels for 6 mts. I went searching for this offer and there it was on the Currys web site. So of I trot to currys and pay my one of payment. Got back home with all my info pack and rang sky to make a date for it to be installed. When I rang sky and they found out that I had not got a landline, they charged me another £25.00 on top of my £75.00 before they would install it.That was okay until my free 6 mths ran out. I thought I wouldn't carry on with the subscription as it wasn't being watched much, and thought that would be it. Until the following month I got a bill for £19.00, then another letter which said they had added another £80 because I didn't keep to my contract of 12 months..So I rang sky...and ask what going on..I got a package that was a one of payment from Currys, 6 months free channels and at no time at all was I told that I was entering into a 12 month contract.Sky was no help at all...they did remove the £80 but I have to pay for the reminder of the 12 contract plua the £19..so all in all my £75 one of payment has turned into nearly £200..For anyone thinking about taking up this offer from Currys...Please read the small print...They have an offer on there now simular but only for 4 months free. and reading it, it seems like you don;t have to keep it on but remember your into a 12 months contract with you need to pay after your 4 months free no matter what....So much for trying to save money eh!!!
  • ALERT: It seem as though ebay has some HD Freesat recorders for sale at about £400.
A cheaper option (Technomate 6800 or the Clarke-Tech 5000) seems to be available and calling itself PVR-Ready, which i think means you can plug in hard drives through the USB.
Can I use my old PVR9200T from Humax in conjuction with these? Are these £400 models the freesat PVRs we've been waiting for? If so why is there no update on freesats site.
    Thanks

    Thanks

I asked BBC Freesat about the PVR dates earlier last month and got this reply:

Sorry it’s taken a while to reply, we’ve had a great response so far, but hope this answers your question: A freesat HD DTR (digital television recorder) will be available later this year. The freesat DTR will allow you to record HD TV and also record one programme while you are watching another. We do not have an exact launch date a present.

Hell has now frozen over......i decided yesterday to take the Free SKY+ with Free installation on a £19 a month mix 4 package, whilst i wait for the HD PVR to be launched. The benefit to this is that my satellite dish was not set up suitably for HD freesat, so rather than paying freesat £80 to do it all i decided to use/abuse SKY:rotfl:

    Its being installed at lunchtime:beer:
  • do you mean: suitably...
    Rather than : not suitably

    neither:p

    i should have said unsuitable

but thanks for pointing out the typo professor:rolleyes:
  • actually I'm not trying to correct your english, I dont understand your post! ;)
If they did it unsuitable, then it's not a benefit, hence the confusion.
