As I have worked out the other day the we spennd £75 plus per month with virgin media/mobile , I got to thinking that as my wife is on a years maternity leave and we are trying to manage on my wage (sort of ), that maybe I should try and get our Virgin bill(s) down a bit.
I spend ; £25 per month on my mobile contract (18 month contract ends April 2009)
£10 per month mobile contract x 2 (special 300 mins/texts) (Wife and Mum!)
£30 on broadband , tv , and home phone (but never use it)

    Total of £75

    should I try for a % discount or a free/discounted virgin+ box ?

A few months ago I wouldnt have dreamed of asking but after being an MSE'r for a bit , feel like its my duty to save a few pennies

Am also thinking of switching from EON to NPOWER for gas and electric ?
    any helpful comments:confused:

    THANKS

Firstly, you put that you never use the broadband, phone and TV. I find that hard to beliwve that you don't use it at all, but I get your point. If you don't use it, get rid of it. It will save you nearly £400 a year. However, check your wife doesn't want it whilst on maternity leave!

However, as my post above states, I have found a my £15, no contract freeview box can get 80% of the channels you pay Virgin for.

Secondly, why are you paying for her Mum's phone??

With all your expenditure to Virgin, I think they definately have a case to keep you happy and if your not, tell them so. They make nearly £1000 a year out of you! So lets say, for examples sake you are on say £20K pa. 5% of your salary goes straight to Virgin. Nearly as bad as the taxman!

sorry , think my post was a bit jumbled !
I use the TV ,Broadband but not the phone line (due to our mobiles having free minutes etc)
my mums mobile , she gives me the £10 per month.

I think its not a bad deal overall (ie 3 mobile contracts , tv, broadband and landline) but obviously with all of SKYS attempts to poach virgin customers I thought maybe they might give us a bit of incentive to stay. Will ring up and try for maybe a 10% discount overall or maybe a virgin plus box.
    thanks for the reply

Ok guys and girls.... We are moving house soon and have sky + with all except movies. What should I be asking for when I phone to say I am moving? A new sky+ box would be great or what is on offer?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Having read the threads on here about this, we thought we would give it a try. We just phoned and said we wanted to cancel our Sky as we had a hard disc recorder, and the guy said "that's a shame as I am able to offer you free Sky+ as of today, it's a brand new offer to people considering cancelling". Obviously, that last bit was a porky, but hey, we are having it installed on 1st July, so thanks to other members who gave us the tipoff, and give it a try if you haven't yet!

Thanks but this isnt a grabbit

Sky are not happy because there is a free solution Freesat (BBC/ITV) which offers free HD for a one off payment granted it has some way to go

ITV launched free HD service this week BBC have one on there already got launched last month. PVR (sky+ type boxes) to follow in next few months

In the next few months and years in will improve more channels.

You can also use your existing sky dish apparently
