I have had sky + now for over a year, its fantastic but I keep getting calls from a maintenance company, saying my warranty is now up and if anything happens to the box or dish sky will charge me a fortune to repair/replace. They want me to take a policy out with them which will cost about £90 a year. Is this a con? Not sure what to do has anyone got any experience of this.?

what is the name of the warranty company I got calls from one last year who were pushy and rude, and after calls to Sky, they denied any affiliation with them

Thanks for the advice so far.

The bit in bold is the bit I'm struggling with - how can they get this offer when they are already BT customers?

    MTIA

    Duder

    Sorry, I wasn't clear enough.
They need to keep their BT line for Sky Broadband and phone.

The offer I was referring too is a Sky offer: http://friend.sky.com/

As long as you are out of the 12 month initial period and your sky box no longer works. Call them up and say you are cancelling they wont want you to cancel and normally send someone out. Did that to a friend of ours and have seen it on mse before.

Have read that before as well. My point was that Sky have made available my details to external 3rd party companies to ring me ex-directory phone number to flog me a warranty I dont want.

still, I cancelled sky before xmas and I am now downloading Lost/Prison Break from the net therefore money saved and nothing lost!! would have happily stayed with them if they offered decent deals......thieving swines!!

Received a Introduce A Friend vouchers today. Free Sky+ box and installation worth £209 for new customers and we get £50 of M&S vouchers. Everyone i know has already got sky if anyone is interested please pm me. pretty good deal really.
  • I have been a SKY customer over 10 years, always on the full package (yes they have had some money off me!!) anyway called them up as I wanted SKY+ when through the usual blag about not being able to watch the programmes I wanted due to change in job, so was going of cancelling ~ adviser told me that was fine ! asked about a reduction as last resort ~ absoloute no go , told they had stopped doing the reduced boxes bck in Novemver. Was quite taken aback that they would be prepared to lose over £500 a year in fees each month rather than giving a reduced box ......wasn't prepared for that scenario!!!!!

Anyway never ended up cancelling due to it being the footie season so am going to cancel for when the last match is played... but does anyone know how long it is you have to cancel for before you can become a 'new' customer so I can join via Quidco ?
This is a do-it-yourself test for paranoia: you know you've got it when you can't think of anything that's your fault.
