Hey Dude: your folks will need to keep their BT line anyway. Make sure they get introduced by a friend too, so that everyone gets £50 M&S or Next vouchers.

    Cheers

How does this work when they are already BT customers?

I imagine they would want to keep their exisiting number.

    Thanks,

    Dude

The poster means DON'T move line rental away from BT - KEEP line rental with BT, don't go for line rental with anyone else. Only BT are forced (& Kingston in their area) to allow you to use cheap call providers, once you move line rental away from BT these other providers can and do block cheap call providers, so the few pennies saved on line rental is lost on having to pay higher call charges than you could have got if you still had BT line rental and placed calls through a cheaper provider.

So best of have BT Line rental, Sky TV, Sky Talk (which is only the calls automatically going through Sky, the line rental stays with BT) and Sky broadband.

As line rental is still with BT you can then use Call 18185 which gives UK landline calls for 5p per call - compare that to Sky Talk at around 3.25p/min and calls to UK mobiles at 3p/min weekends and 6p/min weekdays.

Heinz has a link with all the details.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • I have had sky + now for over a year, its fantastic but I keep getting calls from a maintenance company, saying my warranty is now up and if anything happens to the box or dish sky will charge me a fortune to repair/replace. They want me to take a policy out with them which will cost about £90 a year. Is this a con? Not sure what to do has anyone got any experience of this.?
  • How much did people pay for installation of Sky plus, and how much do you think i should pay just for Sky no brdband or multiroom, with sky sports and e4 packkage??????

Thanks for the advice so far.

The bit in bold is the bit I'm struggling with - how can they get this offer when they are already BT customers?

Hey dude, can't see what BT has to do with anything.
To be in a position to have Sky broadband, Talk etc you need to have a BT phone line. there is no number change involved with Sky talk. Thats the starting point.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

My husband rang Sky recently to query about Sky+. We have been with them for 5 years, have two top priced packages and never missed a payment. First they said it would be over £200 for Sky+ and then the installation fee on top. It dropped down to £100 but that was it. We said no thanks and we'll be looking at going elsewhere.

Con. Cheaper to buy a new box on eBay if / when yours breaks.

    Anyone got some advice??????
  • I was thinking of switching from Virgin to Sky so I could watch Lost series 4 but was put off by having to have BT line rental or more specifically the BT connection charge that I'd have to pay as there had never been a BT line to my house. (Incidentally BT told me the £124 was charged by the engineering firm not themselves but this is by the by).

As a customer since NTL days I was paying £41.99 per month for 1mb Broadband, basic phone package (i.e. cheap at evenings/weekends but expensive in day) with international calling discount and seemed to have a hybrid of their L and XL tv packages in that I had L channels but oddly had TV Choice On Demand included like it would be for XL but without the £5 per month charge that would be applicable for L. This weird package resembled nothing on their website.

I called them up saying I'd had leaflet through door offering new virgin media customers M tv package with HD, M phone package and M broadband for £16 per month plus a half price £75 V+ installation/box charge.

I said I was paying nearly 3 times this amount and felt they could do better.

They offered me M tv, 2mb broadband and M phone for £33 per month which I said was too much because I could get Sky with BT line rental for £29.50 ( I omitted fact I'd have to pay £124 to reconnect).

She came back with £27.45 per month inclusive of VAT for L tv, 2mb broadband and L phone and I agreed to drop international option as I was no longer using it. My evening/weekend phone calls are now included in the package whereas previously I was paying around £5 per month on top of the £41.99. So actually this is a better deal than their 3 for £30 package as promoted on website which only offers L tv, 2mb broadband and M phone (free weekends but not free evening calls).

So I reckon I'm about £18-19 per month better off for haggling and agreeing to stay with them for further 12 months. That's around £220 over the year.

The odd thing is I still have free access to TV On Demand! When I asked if I would keep this, she said "But it doesn't work, there's a problem nationwide so we're not promoting it." I said but I watch it everynight and she said "Oh you must be one of the lucky ones!".

And now I have found Lost series 4 on iTunes I am really glad I didn't move to Sky!
