Free Caller Display? Darn, I didn't realise it was free with BT otherwise I might have been cheeky & asked for that as well!
Never mind,I'm happy I got a good deal so easily, I'm usually the one who phones & gets the one CS rep who won't give an inch.
It's worth asking them, as I had to call back, I just said 'Oh I forgot at the time to mention caller display, that's free with BT and with Sky Line rental, any chance I can have that free too?'.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Indeed and this is the point I was (badly) trying to make.
Freeview is often thought of as a platform in the same way that some people think that BSkyB means satellite TV
Interesting this is from the Setanta website
Setanta Sports is now available on satellite, cable, by Broadband and on the Freeview platform in GB
What chance have people got?
None at all. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Thanks for your replies.
I do understand fully the concept of freeview. The reason I asked the question re my second sky + box is that the tv is solely connected to the sky dish and has no other aerial connection. I was worried that the box would not receive a signal once I stop the subscription.
Yeah, Freeview comes through the aerial and not a satellite dish.
The free channels on satellite, are simply just called the free satellite channels, as unlike Freeview there's no consortium listing them together, they just happen to broadcast Free To Air or Free To View.
Often people just call them Freesat channels and this is the name the BBC regisitered some years back and why Sky use the name FreeSatFromSky.
If you cancel a subscription, your viewing card turns into a FTV card (Free To View card).
There are over 100 channels that are Free To Air (FTA) this requires no card as they are transmitted in the clear, then there's a few channels that require the FTV card (the ex-subs card or £20 FreeSatFromSky card), these FTV channels are Channel4, Channel4+1, Five, Five US, Five Life and Sky Three.
If you have 2 Sky+ boxes and you cancel the £10 multi-room subscription then the 2nd box will receive just the Freesat (not Freeview - different thing) channels and lose the recording function, if you want recording function on a non-subscription box, you have to pay £10/month, which you'd be better off paying for the £10 multi-room, as you'd get the recording function included and a mirror of the channels on the first box. Unless you don't mind not having the recording function on the 2nd box. It's likely when the BBC/ITV Freesat boxes hit the streets, Sky will drop the £10 / month recording fee on non-subscription boxes too. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... We got offered a good deal yesterday from sky and there coming on Tuesday to install it, all tv packages inc movies and sport, sky+ box and multi room, 16mb broadband and talk unlimited £32.50 for 6 months then it goes to £37.50 paying £25 for sky+ and installation then add £11 line rental and £10 (possibly) for setanta = £53.50 for first 6 months and £58.50 for the final 6 months and virgin wont match or come near it the best they would offer was £81.
Also worth mentioning that when i contacted bt to reconnect there was a fee of £125 as we have been cable for 10 years but when i spoke to sky they cover the cost of you going back to bt and the monies will be credited to your sky account which made things even better;)The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

Hi- sorry but thats as clear as mud! Your total average bill for all that from sky is £81 a month which is what you say Virgin offered you!!Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.
Primum non noce!0 -
It made sense to me when typing it but thats always the case, with the sky deal for new customers 1/2 package for 12 months i will be paying £37.50 a month for all tv channels including movies and sports, 16 mb broadband and talk unlimited but for the first 6 months i will have talk unlimited free hence only paying £32.50.
So taking the dearest 6 months i will be paying £37.50 to sky, £11 to BT and then £10 to setanta meaning i will be paying £58.50 per month for having sky against the £81 per month to virgin, 12 months with sky/bt will cost £672 against 12 months @ £81 with virgin £972 means a nice £300 saving for the 12 months.
Is that any clearer? The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Having told Virgin to collect their equipment I was contacted about 2 weeks into the notification to be offered:
2mb Broadband
XL TV
Sky Sports
Phone Line
24/7 calls to geographic numbers
for £44.45
I accepted0 -

Wish I'd asked Sky about this before agreeing to go back with Virgin. It was this reconnection fee that put me off moving.0 -
I didnt know about it either it was Bt that told me so i called sky who confirmed it, i have to pay it first then there is a form coming out to me so that i can claim the monies back to my sky account. The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0
