I'm paying sky £57 a month for multi room top package with 2 sky + boxes.

It really isn't worth the money. Does anybody know if I cancel could I buy anything that would still let me use the sky + boxes. Hopefully not a dodgy card from the pub. :rotfl:

They'll still work for FTA channels, watching only. But for the SKy+ recording facility to work, you need a subscription. Minimum is 1 mix at £16 a month, plus £10 a month for your second box. Sky+ facilities will then work for you as they do now.

So I could have say 3 mixes and can the second box and it would only cost me £18 a month, even though I could still get the normal freeview through my cancelled sky + box.

If you paid £18 per month, you'd have 3 mixes and Sky+ recording facilities on one box, but the second box would have no Sky+ recording facilities, no mixes, just FTA viewing only. Adding £10 a month makes the second box mirror the capabilities of the first.

Freeview comes through your aerial - nothing to do with Mr. Murdoch

And of course Freeview is now a misleading name as Setanta (for example) is on it, for which you need to pay.

Normal mistake people make. OK some mention add Setanta or TopUPTV to Freeview etc.

However Freeview is just that, FREE and there will only be free channels on Freeview, hence the name Freeview.

What you are mixing up is the fact that:

    1) Freeview channels broadcast on DTT.
    2) TopUpTV channels broadcast on DTT.
    3) Setanta subscription channel broadcasts on DTT.

3 Different services broadcast on DTT.

Many people wrongly use Freeview as a synonym for DTT - often the media do too, so this could be why you think Setanta is on Freeview when it isn't as it's not a free channel and only free channels are part of Freeview.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Was paying £46 per month for XL TV (already reduced by £10.50 per month)
    L BB (£25 per month)
M phone (unlimited weekend calls, £11 per month)

Am now getting same TV and BB plus upgrade to L phone service (unlimed weekend AND evening calls) all for £35 per month.

Yeah, that's the offer I'm on, now getting 50p discount from that for eBilling and I get Caller Display free too, as I said it's free on BT and Sky Line Rental.

Free Caller Display? Darn, I didn't realise it was free with BT otherwise I might have been cheeky & asked for that as well!

Never mind,I'm happy I got a good deal so easily, I'm usually the one who phones & gets the one CS rep who won't give an inch.

Indeed and this is the point I was (badly) trying to make.

Freeview is often thought of as a platform in the same way that some people think that BSkyB means satellite TV

Interesting this is from the Setanta website
Setanta Sports is now available on satellite, cable, by Broadband and on the Freeview platform in GB

    What chance have people got?

    Thanks for your replies.
I do understand fully the concept of freeview. The reason I asked the question re my second sky + box is that the tv is solely connected to the sky dish and has no other aerial connection. I was worried that the box would not receive a signal once I stop the subscription.
