  • Don't be too free to give any personal details to whoever wants them for any reason at all. Just refuse flatly.

I am getting really annoyed with Sky almost every week now they phone asking for my details (house name or number, post code, sky card no, and last digits of my card) stating the data protection act, when asked why they are phoning me they answer "to tell me about all the latest offers" give me strength.

This is very off-topic, however, you may find this amusing.. :rotfl:
  • I also have received a few calls from a company selling extended warranty calls for sky boxes. although no affiliation to SKY, I did complain to SKY about giving out my details so they removed me from their marketing lists that I should never have been on in the first place!

Sky only have one company they use for extended warranties, Domestic and General under the Sky Repair Protection Plan.

There are other companies who use the Sky name others that don't and aren't anything to do with Sky, Sky haven't past on any details to these, they just randomly phone people up and mention your equipment is about to come out of warranty or just has, knowing that there's a good chance that it has, some also walk around areas looking for dishes.

If it was D&G then yes, they would be calling on behalf of Sky for their plan.

Unless you state otherwise because you are a customer of Sky, then they can contact you with details of other products they offer.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

It was a company called System Guard, who were rude and persistant but eventually gave up calling.

I always tick the "dont pass my details on to 3rd partys" box on all forms but maybe SKY dont give you that initial option. It really annoyed me as I am ex-directory and as always their call time was impecable calling at 8.30 in the evening just as i managed to get my 2 month old baby to sleep and waking her up !!!!

Sorry this is off-topic, but thought it might help. It might be worth you registering with the Telephone Preference Service: http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/tps/ I did and I don't get any sales calls at all now (we're ex-directory too).

It wouldn't have been Sky who passed on your details to these. Sky only deal with their own Sky Protection Plan with a deal with Domestic and General, and they don't pester.

Sky have taken other 3rd party warranty firms to court for various reasons.

Many people wrongly believe these 3rd party companies have rang on behalf of Sky, are part of Sky, endorsed by Sky or Sky have passed on details to these companies. This is incorrect.

Please don't blame Sky for something that isn't their fault. As much as I'm not a Sky fan, it's wrong to give them the blame for nothing.

Yes, I stated as you are a customer of Sky they can contact you with details of their other products, unless you ask otherwise, but they have not contacted you, they have also not passed your details on, the company that contacted you is nothing to do with Sky and didn't get your details from Sky.

OK. You've called Sky and got taken off Sky's own mailing list, the mailing list where they may tell you of special offers they have etc, but it wouldn't stop companies like this satellite warranty firm calling, as Sky don't pass on your details to them.

Sky would only want you to take their own warranty cover not for you to take someone else's.

Remember being ex-DQ unfortunately doesn't mean someone can't ring your number, ring a number at random and get through, pulled your number from elsewhere.

Managed to grab a v+ box for £45 this morning. Normally £150. Noticed last week that they'd gone down to half price and last Wednesay there was an online discount of £30 showing taking it down to £45. No longer showing but I rang anyway and blagged it.
