I sent an e-mail to sky yesterday using the 1st template in this forum and received a reply from them today. They explained why these offers are sent out and addressed all my issues and offered my sky + for £99 as a good will gesture. As they addressed my issues i can't send off the 2nd template.
Do you think that they are getting wise to these emails and do you think i should accept there offer or hold out for another one??
    Any advise is appreciated.

I wasn't happy with the above offer so i called cancellations and complained and was offered sky + for £49 with no installation charge and they installed it 3 days later. So hold your guns and wait for a better offer!!

Sky + went wrong tonight (won't record and we lost all recordings ). Thought might get HD as we have new telly, have sky +, multiroom and full package over £60 a month. Offered HD for £200 odd is it worth threatening to cancel? Or is that the best HD deal out there. Advice would be appreciated. Is there any other better about like Virgin etc?
    Thanks guys

If you really think SkyHD is worth it (I'm talking about the expensive box plus the £10 extra every month), then why not get one on ebay and save yourself a new 12 month contract tie in. On the other hand, if you do plan to stay with Sky for the next year in any case, then might as well get it from Sky. For warranty purposes the latter would be more convenient.

Personally, I regret buying a SkyHD box. I've cancelled the £10 per month subscription, that's for sure. It's just crap. Not even everything on the HD channels is in HD! I'm looking forward to BBC/ITV's Freesat offering, coming out next year.

I am also looking at upgrading to Sky HD, but looking for the best way to get this. Are there deals possible? I can get the box for £279 from Sky fitted, but don't really want to pay that much! I am currently on a movie package, but want to re-jig my contract. Any advice? Thanks
  • I just noticed that if you went for a Virgin Media V+ box (cable equivalent to Sky+) before June 2007 you can make a one-off payment of £100 to Virgin Media and they will then reduce your V+ rental from £15 per month to £5 per month. This saves you money in 10 months. Got to be worth it!

You can find SkyHD digiboxes on ebay for much less than that. If you currently have Sky+ then no installation is required, just unplug and replace. If you currently have regular Sky, then a second feed of cable is required from your dish, since the recording facilities on the Sky HD box need two cables. You also need at least a dual LNB (more common to be found are quad LNBs). If you have regular Sky, you probably have a single LNB, so will need to replace it.

In short, unless you currently have Sky+, then buy some good quality satellite cable, a quad LNB and some ladders.

I bought a quad LNB off fleabay and connected two sat cables and use one input to my Sky box and another to my Technomate sat receiver. Each is connected to a VCR,a bit old fashioned but it works fine.

I may get a new HD sat receiver in the future but not Sky as I don't want any subs only free HD channels.
There isn't enough free HD channels out there yet but mabye in a year or so.
And of course I'd also need an HD Tv but they are dropping in price as well.

They currently have a Christmas offer on the V+.

    Half-price install of £75.

If you are on the XL TV package, that's all the channels except premium Movies and Sports, there is no extra monthly fee to pay. If you are on M or L package then it's £5 per month extra for the V+

The V+ box also offers HD, but only one channel and a handful of Video On Demand in HD and no plans to add more HD channels to to bandwidth constraints.

Currently there's BBC HD and Luxe.TV that's broadcasting Free To Air, ITV HD launches in the spring, 4 HD launches on the 10th December however to begin with, it will be Free To View so a Sky HD box needed - although no subscription, 4HD will however in 2008 switch to Free To Air.
