  • We had been with telewest for a while and stuck with virgin media after the change. We already had a phone and internet package , was not really an extra special deal but we were noticing that the phone bill was getting quite high. A few weeks later we received a call from virgin media offering to change our phone package, in order for us to be getting the most from our phone, we were grateful as it was very unexpected. BUUUTTTTT heres the big shocker................. THEY OFFERED THE XL TV PACKAGE FOR ..................£1 A MONTH FOR THE WHOLE 12MONTH CONTRACT this was in November.......we have had the bill and it was £1!!! i know this may/will go up after the 12months have ended but wow me thinks thats an unbelievable offer!

I KNOW THIS WASN'T ABOUT HAGGLING BUT, FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE DONE OR ARE ABOUT TO, IT IS GOOD TO KNOW THAT THERE ARE THESE OFFERS AVAILABLE!:rotfl::T
  • I have Sky tv and broadband. Have had the tv for about 7 or 8 years, but the BB I only signed up for in August 07. When I took out the BB I didn't realise I was signing a new 12m contract for the tv also - found this out when I first tried to haggle around October time.

Anyway, got some Xmas money and wanted to get Sky plus box with it. called Sky earlier this week and said I wanted the deal for £49 (it had been in my local shopping centre just before Xmas but when I went to sign up, they'd gone - typical!). Was told I couldn't have it. I asked when my contract was up as I wanted to cancel. Was told I was on a 30 day rolling contract as Sky had changed their t&c's the day after I took out my BB contract, so my 12m contract was void.

Told them I was a bit fed up after reading so many people getting them for free and he asked where I'd heard that. I just said 'on an internet foum'. He replied 'they're lying, we never do sky plus for free'!! I said maybe if it was one person I might believe him but so many people have said it, it had to be true. I said, I don't expect to get it free, am willing to pay £49.

Upshot is, I agreed to multi room, which, whilst it would come in handy for the cartoons for my DS, isn't really what I want. they're supposed to be fitting it tomorrow. If I ring and cancel, do you think they'll contact me with a better offer?

  • Further to the above post, I had a rethink and decided that I didn't want to pay £10 a month for 12 months for multi room I couldn't afford. I rang them this morning to say cancel my account as I'm sick of new customers getting all the decent offers. He told me in no uncertain terms they had NEVER given sky plus for free, or indeed for £49, without taking on extra services. Yeah, right.

I thought he was going to cancel my account and was already thinking about which company offered the most cashback for broadband via quidco ;) whne he said, 'oh, wait a minute - would you want to keep the services if we gave you the mult room for free for 12 months?'.

After checking I could cancel after 12 months, and the sky plus box wouldn't cost me any more, I agreed. So, I'm now having sky plus fitted this afternoon for £49, with multi room for free fo 12 months (when I will either renegotiate, or cancel it). I'm a happy bunny today :j

Star One & Star Plus are part of the Style & Culture Mix.

Entertainment Mixes are all 6 mixes for £21.

    The Six individual mixes are:

    Music Mix
    Variety Mix
    Kids Mix
    Knowledge Mix
    Style & Culture Mix
    News & Events Mix

One Mix is £16, each extra mix is £1 per mix.

So with two mixes Kids & Variety that's £16 add the Style & Culture Mix and it's £17.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

As I have said before just keep cancelling and re conecting as you want. the more that do it the more sky will think we may as well offer something as they it is costing money in man hours. Also when you turn it off you get some days free

    ....... I don't think so.

Our box died last night, tried this morning, but still dead...RIP.
Phoned Tech Dept who did a software download, but that didn't work, thus was told an engineer visit would be required. I was advised i could get someone myself or they could visit for £65 with parts, labour, and new box included (if required).
I told them i would rather cancel and get a freeview box.
Put through to cancellations, and they immediately offered the call-out to me at half price.
Again i said no, just on the basis i can't justify it.
She said she would put me on hold and speak to her supervisor.
I was on hold for less than 5 seconds and was told she was now authorised to give the call-out including the parts, labour, and new box if needed for FREE!

Of course, i accepted this, but just seems to me that everyone would be offered this if they threaten to cancel.
Especially as i'm still within a 12 month contract as i had broadband installed, as she did state i would be liable for the remaining contract fee if i did cancel.

So, it it goes wrong, stick to your guns, threaten cancel and you should get a free call-out.

i phoned technical support as my sky+ box kept giving a fuzzy picture, i got the problem resolved over the phone. i then asked the guy on the phone why is it that i do not have anytime tv and my friend who recently got sky+ has it. he then explained that i have the old sky+ box (i got about 4-5 years back anyway). i then told him that its wasn't fair that i didnt have anytime tv. he responded saying that if i wanted it i would have to pay for a new box, which was £99. i told him that i was wanted to cancel as this was not fair, was then put through to cancellations who told me that i had to pay £99. i said no im not going pay and to just cancel my sky, she then said that the system's telling her that i'm a loyal customer and can get the box for half price. i still wasnt having it. she then said she'll proceed to cancel my sky and put me on hold. about 5 minutes later she came back and said her manager said i could have it for free.

just push on and they'll give in
