Just broke off from Sky after being a customer for years.
Been paying £55 a month including multi room but recently bought a tV with Freeview built in I realised how many times Sky plays repeats and how the movie channel has gone down hill, I only watch RL on sport and the £660 I will save in not paying Sky will go a long way towards other things.
I was on the blower for less than 5 minutes no offers were made not that I was after any its good to be free!
Welcome to the club I left aug this year (been with them from the start) just could not stand the quality of programs, repeated repeats etc, I also bought an LCD with freeview use the sky box upstairs in the bedroom for the free programmes. I might go back when HD is either cheaper or more channels have it at the moment its not worth it.

Success for me! I rang for about the third time in as many months to try and get sky +, but when I was speaking to cancellations I realised i did have some valid points! £65 for an engineer to come and look at my box which keeps freeing, on hold 10 mins + the last 3 times I have tried to spk to someone about faulty box, actually had sky installed at new address yet all paperwork inc direct debits going to old address, and having corrected them at least 4 times. Phone & internet with Virgin. Anyway explained all this very politely but firmly and was offered sky +. Being installed next sunday. I am very pleased, the girl was lovely on the phone as well. Thanks for the confidence boost MSE people, I politley stated my case and got what I wanted.0

Just signed up for BT Vision no charges other than having a value pack for 2 months @£14 or I could not have anything and pay a £30 connection. Everything is then on demand
Sport from Satanta is £9.99 or add that to BT Vision Sport for £12 you get all the live setanta matches and all other games a few hours after they have finished.
Me thuogh I am waiting for SL to hit setanta.0 -
What is the reliability of Sky broadband now, please?
I've had mines for over a year now - Max package - all the problems have disappeared now.
I use Internet Explorer for accessing the net though as I always seem to have problems getting into my SKY emails etc. I kept on my free AOL email address & use that too.
I gave up trying to fix the problem with the SKY emails as the call centres you get put through to really seem to struggle to speak English & even if you are lucky enough to get one who can understand you, they seem to read off a card.0 -

I bought a Pace HD satellite receiver off eBay for £62, ok at the moment the only HD channels it gives are BBC HD and Luxe.TV HD, but ITV HD starts in the spring and although 4HD starts in 10 Dec, it's Free To View and not Free To Air and won't switch to Free To Air until sometime in 2008 when I'll be able to pick it up then. It also picks up the other 100+ FTA SD channels. Only the Now/Next works on the box, not due to box capability but due to all the channels that broadcast from the Astra 2 and Eutelsat satellites only use the proprietary Sky EPG system and not a standard EPG system. You can have both the Pace HD box and Sky Dodgy-box off the one feed off the dish, as you can make or buy a small patch cable and link the LNB output from the Pace box to the Sky box, so if you switch the Pace box into standby, you can then use the Sky box.
When the BBC/ITV launch their Freesat venture, they'll be using another EPG system and different interactive, some boxes will be PVRs, some HD, it's not new satellites or channels, all three systems pick up the same FTA channels in the same place, it's just the EPG and interactive that's different (no interactive on Pace HD box).
Having the Sky dodgy-box and Pace HD box suits me, though I also have Freeview and VirginMedia cable TV (with their HD box arriving soon). It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Hi,
I was looking at a post last night with info on half price SKY for 12 months - can anyone point me in the right direction or tell me how to join up as I can't find it.
Thanks0 -
Instead of phoning 0870 number, 01506 421731 should get you through to Sky Customer Services0

I've thought about getting an HD receiver and new HD Tv but the problem is I hardly ever have the Tv on now as when I do I switch off after 10 mins as the progs and the way they are presented i.e. drums playing in the background all the time and segments on things like the Gadget Show jumping all over the place supposedly to give it a fast edge just make me cringe.
I'd much rather put on a 78 rpm record on the radiogram and listen to Doris Day.0 -
Thanks to this thread I've just managed to get my monthly Virgin media package reduced by £11, plus an upgrade to the large phone service for free...just by asking politely!
Was paying £46 per month for XL TV (already reduced by £10.50 per month)
L BB (£25 per month)
M phone (unlimited weekend calls, £11 per month)
Am now getting same TV and BB plus upgrade to L phone service (unlimed weekend AND evening calls) all for £35 per month.
Had no problems being offered this, I simply said I'd been a customer for several years & had heard about some of the good offers other customers were getting, and wondered if there was any way we could reduce our monthly bill.
Nice scottish man initially looked at trying to cut down to a smaller package, but I said ideally I woud like to keep the same package, just pay less!
Had to agree to a new 12 month contract, but happy to do that as not thinking of swapping anyway.
I still think a lot depends on who you speak to & how you approach them, though. I went straight through to retensions department, as they have a lot more leeway to offer discounts than customer services.0 -
Just thought I'd let you know I called Sky this morning with the intention of cancelling my Sports and Movies as it is too expensive at £45 per month. I have just finished a 20% off for 12 months deal with them and now it's just gone back up to £45. Anyway spoke to a nice Scottish lady, told her I just wanted the basic £21 entertainment package, and she said because I was a loyal customer I could have the Sky World package at £33 for the next 3 months, and I didn't have to enter into another contract.
Will defo cancel after the 3 months and go onto the £21 package, but it's saved a few quid in the meantime - and it looks like they must have a few deals to give away over Christmas.
Also, Setanta Sports are offering 2 months free trial for just £1 - visit www.setanta.com/offer and enter code 2001, you need to cancel after the two months or it's £10 per month.0
