Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

Just called SKY cancellations dept. and said I wanted to cancel (not really tho) to try and get a half price offer for a few months
but the guy said they are no longer offering these deals anymore as they had too many customers on them.
Oh well , worth a shot. Anyone got any other ideas to get a deal?0 -
I don't know if anyone else has experienced this. Back in February when my tv/phone/broadband package was coming up for renewal I threatened to leave in favour of a better deal and they slashed the cost of my package to just under £15 per month for 2Mb broadband, phone and basic TV package for 12 months.
I got my July statement and they've increased my bill by £10 per month. They have a convoluted discounting system where you see the discount listed in bits and pieces. I rang to complain and they told me that because of some changes they apply discount differently and they can no longer give me the same level of discount and there is no way they can give me the deal we agreed in February. I have nothing in writing, it was negotiated on the phone and I remember asking at the time is this for 12 months and they assured me it was. In my eyes they've broken their contract even though it was verbal. Surely this is illegal. I'm waiting on a call back from a manager. I'm outraged, they didn't even notify me they had changed the charges other than the bill added up to ten pounds more than usual.
I'll report back on progress once i've spoken to one of their managers.0 -
A verbal contract is as legally binding as a written one..... but hard to prove!0

Sky is a super mega corp. They do what they like - and get away with it.0

I see Sky put their prices up on September 1st.
Three people I know were not informed of the increase.
Can they just put up prices without telling each customer their new tariff? I assume they can but surely it's not right!!0 -
We've got Sky+ and sports package. Started years ago at £33 pm. Now I notice it's £37.45 - we've never been notified of any increases.0

I got this letter from Sky today.
Dear Akabee
We're writing to let you know from the 31 August to 9 September 2007 you might notice something different with your Sky TV service. That's because you'll have access to all the Sky TV channels, free for 10 days.
But, there's no need to be concerned. Neither your bill nor subscription will be affected in the slightest. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us on 08706 070 430
Is this normal?0 -

Hmmm.. Very interesting. Has anyone else had this? I certainly haven't..0 -
Always beware of Sky. They don't give any free lunches.
If I was you I would tel them before the 10 days are up and tell themto cancel 'this something different' after the free trial period. If not, they will start charging after 10 days - and tell you later.I got this letter from Sky today.

They can't and I'm sure wont charge for an unrequested upgrade. It'd be illegal for a start!
As for not informing about increases - if you get the Sky mag it would be in the letter at the front of that. If you don't get it why not?0
