Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

I currently have the top package at a discounted rate of £32.50/m which is coming to an end at the end of August so I phoned Sky up today and told them that I wanted to cancel (hoping that they would give me a special deal like they did last year) but the Sky advisor said that they do not offer subscription discounts anymore.
Is this true?
PS. As he had nothing to offer I told him to cancel it, hoping that someone will contact me to offer me something.0 -

I called to downgrade my package as I don't have as much time to watch TV as I used to. They offered me the full package (inc Sports & Movies) plus multiroom for £39.50 a month but I declined, there wasn't much point in signing up to extra channels when I don't have time to watch the ones I've already got. I've never had any discounts before though so maybe that's why I was offered one. Would like to get Sky+ later in the year though so I hope they'll do me a discount then!0 -

Anyway, engineer came round was excellent and extremely helpful. He said that if we ring back again and request upgrade to Virgin Plus (?) then they would only charge additional £75, install brand new V+ box, and reconnect my existing cable receiver to any other TV in the house on the XL package I currently have, for no extra charge!! (and would work independently from main unit)
Hope this helps

Excellent, thanks.. it shows they're open to offering more for less than haha. We've had loads of problems with them, but we have with sky also so it's swings and roundabouts really so once they have digital in our area we're probably going to move our TV over to them (IF they give us the deal we want haha). xLost lbs =

previously;
Tel line rental £11.00
Tv size L £11.50
Broadband L £25.00
total £47.50
now;
Tel £11.00
Tv L £11.50
Broadband M £18.00
loyalty pack BB/Phone/TV A - £16.50
Total £24.00
Saving £23.50 a month!
Phoned VM to tell them I wanted to close account as Sky were doing a much cheaper package. I was talked into staying (phew....) lifetime loyalty pack consists of £16.50 discount every month and went from BB L to BB M for another £7 off. (2meg seems to be quick enough and is unlimited)
I then mentioned wireless router and was offered a free router to the value of £45 credited to account.
Worth the phonecall I believe!

I received my monthly statement from Virgin Media today to find my package of phone line/broadband size M/TV size XL had increased in price to £53.61 with a price increase on 7 September. I went onto Moneysaving site and found Martins tips- first phone the customer services and haggle.
So I phoned explained the bill and the new price was to be £57 a month as I had completed a previous 6 month offer ( I have been with cable several years and pay by direct debit so am a 'faithful customer'), I did the haggle talk and from Monday a new offer of £33.95 a month - valid for 12 months - will be in place for the same package, thats £276.60 saved over the year saved.
Thanks Martin!:j0 -
hi,
i phoned up sky about 3 weeks ago about their price increases and that i wanted to cancel because my 4 year old sky box was temperamental. They offered me a £49 Sky + box for free and would also give me free installation saving me a total of £148. I accepted this but told them that i still wanted to downgrade my sky package. I was was then lucky enough to get offered my current package for 6 months half price saving me a further £54.
regards,
