Just got 1/2 price Sky TV for 12 months + new box installed free.

    Obtained via "Simply Digital" offer.

I cancelled Sky 2 months ago and my partner registered with Simply Digital for the offer.

She got a letter this week inviting her to phone Sky to book deal. Booked full package for £21.75.

As I have a Sky box already will I be able to use the old box in another room for freeview? Can 2 boxes run off one dish?

Grateful for a quick response as I can ask the engineer to sort this for me on Saturday when he comes with the new box.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the info Wolfman.

I had a look on http://www.simplydigital.co.uk/ but can't find any half price for 12 months offer. You mention that your partner had to register to get this offer. How did they do this?

Regarding your old Sky box, yes, you certainly can use this for reception of FTA channels in another room. Leave your recently terminated viewing card in it for additional reception of the FTV channels (namely Ch4, five, five life, five US and Sky 3). You will need at least a dual LNB for this though. Unless you previously had Sky+, your currently LNB (on the satellite dish) is most likely a single LNB.

The engineer, when he comes, is expecting to complete a standard Sky install. What you need is for him to replace your dish's single LNB with a dual (or quad) LNB, as well as to run a second cable from the dish to your other room. Sky won't be paying him for this of course, so, providing he's willing, his payment for the job is between you and him.

I'm not going anywhere near Sky, Virgin Media (I'm in a fight with them right now, but that's another story that deserves a whole new thread), or any of their ilk.

In fact, I'm planning to be one of the last people to go digital. I've got an unused PC that could be used as a digibox and recorder, provided I can be bothered to upgrade it sufficiently to cope.

Of course, I could use my Athlon64 main system for digital reception and recording :) as it has loads of power and disk space...

I feel that Sky has a monopoly on satellite and, as per usual, our govt's not interested because it's owned by Murdoch, and he's a friend of the PM...
  • if this is in the wrong place please move

in a month or so when my origional sky contract ends i want to downgrade it to the min package.we have sky+ and multi room. if i cancel multi room pack will the existing box still recieve the basic free channels?as ot's now free i will still keep sky+ but will this still work on the minimum package?and has anyone any advice on taking sky up on the extended warrenty, they are currently phoning me up every couple of days to try and sell it.if i do take it up and cancel the multi room i presume that won't be covered.only reason i am thinking of taking their warrenty up is my sis system went wrong a few wks ago and it cost her a fortune to put right(out of warrenty)

Can't advise on the warranty offerings I'm afraid, but regarding the other queries..
If you cancel your multiroom sub - yes, that box will still being able to receive the FTV channels. Sky+ will continue to work, even on the minimum package, at no extra cost.. :)

Looking for a new deal with Virgin.

Spoke to a mate and he says I can buy an ethernet thingy and he would fit it for about £5.

I stilll think £68 is quite expensive, can anybody give me an idea how much I can try and haggle for?

British Dragon says he got one on 4/7/07 for
    XL tv
    Standard phone
    Extra set top
and 20mg broadband for only "40.50 for a year!

    Hi

Your mate is right about the ethernet card - very cheap and simple to fit

I spoke to Virgin retentions about six months ago after being made redundant and got my 20mg broadband reduced to £10 per month. A couple of weeks ago (Still not in work) I phoned to see if they could match BT on the phone carges and they reduced it to £11.95 per month and said I could upgrade to Large TV for an extra 5 pence a month. Last week the broadband reduction ended so I called them back and they said they can re-instate the broadband back to £10 for another six months and when that runs out in January I should call them again to get it re-instated!

    So, I now get

XL Phone and Medium TV for £12 and 20Mb Broadband for £10.

BTW, Virgin Media CS have improved beyond all recognition in the last few months. Congratulations to them and I hope they stuff Sky!

Virgin won't budge on my price package.

    XL, unlimited landline calls,2MB BROADBAND+ASIAN PACK(£24) for £76 a month.

Anything else I can say to them, also 0800-529403 no longer works, anyone know direct no. for rententions. I got through to a NEast call centre and they weren't as accomodating as rentions in the past.

Also, does anyone know what the comparable price package would be on Sky along with similar phone/braodband deal.

    Thanks.......

I just ordered SkyHD for £199 plus £30 installation. I kept trying and trying to get it cheaper beforehand but they wouldn't budge below £299 plus £60 installation. Looked on the Sky website today and they have a special offer on for existing customers for a limited period (I think it's the end of September). The longer you've had Sky the more you get off. I've had it since 1992, so I got it for £229, which is a lot better than the £359 I was being offered last week! I'm chuffed. It's getting installed next Tuesday. :D

my advice would be to not order the extended warranty for Sky + boxes. I got called yesterday and declined the offer.

The reason being is that for the first 12 months the box is covered under warranty so if its broken they are obliged to fix/replace it.

after that you are on a rolling contract. this enables you to cancel with 30 days notice. if they try to charge you for the repair then threaten to cancel the contract. my sister did this and they sent an engineer free of charge who replaced the box
