  • I've been with Sky on the full package for about 7 years. I decided in May that i just wasn't watching enough to justify the £43.50, so phoned up to cancel. They offered me 3 months free (not strictly true as I still had to pay that months DD) on the basic package. In the next few days I will need to phone up to give my 30 days cancellation notice.

I would like to try Freeview and have just found out that Sky offer Freesat which would mean i can use my Sky box to get the channels and don't need to go and buy a new Freeview box.

Does anyone know if my existing viewing card will receive the Freesat channels after i have cancelled? Or will I need to spend £20 to get a new card, which is what they say on their website?

There is £85 to be had via Quidco for new Sky Digital subscribers

I assume once you have canceled you can go via Quidco and get Sky+ for around £15. Please note this is an assumption and should be checked before leaping in and then blaming me if it does not work

Personally I would re-register with another name in the household i.e. your wife or one of your children, to qualify as a new customer/subscriber

When I phoned for mine I just said " I called the other day to cancel and a chap told me I could have sky plus box and install for free if I stayed so I am calling back to arrange it"

Had you called up before or was this your first call to them?

I wonder if this why they are not keeping present subscribers happy

hi, after several phone calls to sky last night, we can finally report success! mrs big green persevered, and finally got a deal by ringing the sky hd phone number. they offered us hd for £199 and a £30 install, not as low as some on here have got it for, but it will do for us. ( plus, we get to keep our sanity too!!)

now if we can just negotiate a refund for the huge phone bill we've incurred by calling them, we'll be quids in!

When your subscription ends you are left with FREESAT at no cost and your exsiting card will be fine...Freesat is different to freeview though.not quite so many channels, No Eurosport or skysportsnews

not really sure, they seemed to refer to 'notes' they had on their system, mrs BG kept trying different numbers until we got a result. the hd dept were really good, friendly and agreeable, it was like phoning an entirely different company!
  • One big thing missing from Freesat is E4. More 4 and Film 4 which I can't understand as they're free to air aren't they? We cancelled Sky a while ago and just run the Freesat in a poor reception area for Freeview.
