Just called sky and they have given me a refurb sky + box foc. Added BB Max also. Very helpful chap called stuart sorted me out :)

Fitted monday am. I called on customer services and asked to be put through to cancellations.

I had previously been offered sky+ for £49.99 and asked nicely if they could do it for free I would bring my BB to them also.

    :T

So still worth threatening to cancel then if you want sky + and dont want to pay £99 for it? I want to upgrade but as an existing customer for more years than I can remember I dont want to pay for it. Friends of mine claim they threatened to cancel to get Sky + and were not offered anything so before I do it just wanted to make sure it was worth trying.

When you call, you are put through to Customer Services (CS). These will only deal with package swaps etc. Tell them you want to cancel because of what ever plausable reason you can think of.
You are then put in contact with Retentions. Now these are the people who can "offer" special deals that are not available to CS. Repeat the reason as to why you wish to cancel in a real soft and realistic tone. Do not ask for the + box straight away. leave them to offer. Then it's just a case of haggling!
If they say ok I will cancel your sub then you have two options.
    1) Stick with it and wait to see if they offer something before the 30 days are up and if not ring back or 2) Backtrack and say that you will sit back and re consider what to do, say a bit more research. Try again later.

OK no go with me, was going to be offered an A Grade box but they dont do them anymore I was told so its £99 or nothing :( not sure if its timing or who you speak to. Told them I dont get time to watch progs I want to, let them suggest sky + and it just didnt happen.

Said I would have to think about it and left it at that :(

The person you spoke to, was that the retentions department?
If so then there must be something going on?
Perhaps if we all ditched all the premium channels then they would start to listen!

I told them I wanted to cancel but have a feeling I got transferred to sales when the customer service guy started going on about Sky+ but he definately said they had no A grade boxes left.

Do you think they record that I called against my account to stop persistent tryers?

Probably do, but I would leave it till the end of the week and try again. Give them more "i've been with for years etc...." and family costs and see what happens.

They have a certain amount of graded boxes per retentions rep for the week. I called on a Friday and the guy told me this himself. At the start of the week they are a bit 'tight' offering these deals!

Try again on Friday and see how you go :)

sky really are being tight at the moment............they wouldn't offer me anything!!!!

i'm convinced they log all your calls and previous offers because i think the fact i've had a couple of offers before means they know my game and wont offer anything even though i've cancelled and my account ended 23/7.

i've emailed them a few times suggesting i might reinstate my account for the 'right' package at the 'right' price.

finally they called me this morning (haven't received any calls or mail since cancelling). they said they had my email about reinstating but wouldn't offer anything, even though i said i would be interested in a broadband package (which i haven't had previously).

i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place!!!!!!!!!

i reckon they must have had loads of virgin customers move across who wanted sky one etc.

will give it a little while longer and will try one final call to customer 'turnaround' department..............

    :(

When I phoned for mine I just said " I called the other day to cancel and a chap told me I could have sky plus box and install for free if I stayed so I am calling back to arrange it"
Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together. :p
