Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

I have been a sky customer for years (approx 6) and have always paid full package - never had any offers - never asked for any - never threatened to cancel. I also have Sky +, paid £200 for it myself when it first came out.
Anyway, as i'm a full time student and times are hard,I decided to give them a ring and see if they could help me out in anyway by giving me a discount. Anyway, they would not budge at all - even when I explained that I was thinking about changing to Virgin. So I cancelled it all out of sheer upset. I'm a bit miffed that I have been a loyal customer for years and they cannot even offer me at least a 6 months discount when I have dutifully paid full price for all this time. My friend has been with them for 18 months and is forever getting half price offers etc, and she doesn't even have a full package like me.
Proud to be dealing with my debts :money:0 -
I called sky a few weeks back and told them i was going to cancel unless they ungraded my Multiroom box upstairs to a Sky+ Box (One downstairs is already Sky+)
In return i changed my Broadband and phone to Sky, they agreed now im getting cheaper calls, faster internet, and Sky+ in my room!Debt free thanks to MSE!
Savings (House Deposit Fund):
£32000 -
Well done Red_Man.
It can be quite e feat getting anything out of Sky. I know I work there!!!
I take it your Broadband is working well, as quite a few customers have problems when they change.0 -

Well Done on answering the questions other MSE have about Sky, its always good to have someone on the inside!
I've just got Sky Tv and Sky Broadband installed, have had both for about 1 month now and very pleased with the service!0 -
This is an interesting turn of events, isn't it? Getting to talk to a real Sky person for free (well without having to dig out the 'say no to 0870' option).
I've been a Sky customer for over six years. Never had a deal, never had an offer, never had anyone phone me to see if I'm a happy customer. Despite that, I'm sitting here, ready to sign up to Sky+ and broadband.
Everyone else was doing it so I thought I'd go for the 'cancellation scam'. I'd have signed up straight away for a halfway decent offer but I don't think I have ever met with such an arrogant, unhelpful response. Came off the 'phone without signing up to anything and, if I hadn't been so busy this last few weeks, definitely would have cancelled and gone to Virgin or somesuch. Still thinking about it.
I'd happily pay the £49 for the (decent) box. However, for me it is the £10 subscription that is a sticking point for Sky+. I don't want any premium channels, I've looked at the 'movie' offer and, frankly, it doesn't look so enticing - a subscription to one of the DVD suppliers offers better value and more choice. More of a sticking point was all the rumours about Sky dropping the £10 Sky+ subscription. If I sign up I'll be stuck with a new one year contract (despite being a customer for so long already) and the operator at Sky could not reassure me that if I signed the contract, and then Sky dropped the Sky+ subscription, that I would not still be landed with the £10 per month charge for the rest of the one year contract period. But then she was so busy telling me how lucky the world has to have Sky I'm not sure she was listening!
I'm also having second thoughts about the broadband as I know a number of people having problems with it which have proved impossible to resolve with the call centre. As a matter of interest, though, does anyone actually have the free broadband we heard so much about? That seems to have been subsumed by the £26 offer which is actually the £5 broadband option wrapped up in a package.
Anyway, would be interested to hear KerryM's comments.0 -
My last post prompted me to do something a bit more active again and I looked at some of the other forums.
Could you comment on this post on Digitalspy, KerryM?
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forumsP/showthread.php?p=14374465#post14374465 saying:
"Just got off the phone with sky and they told me July 1st is when sky will no longer charge £10 a month for Sky + Functions, it will be free for all (if you've got 2 premium packages its free anyway)
was offered 10% discount for 3 months on just 2 mixes if i rejoined. Told him no chance.
However he did confirm that i could use the freeview channels and pause/rewind/ record and anytime tv without any Pay'd subcription.
At last the charge is going"
Is this true, will it apply for existing customers and where will it leave me if I 'phone up now for Sky+?

Hi Kerry,
My mum is intrested in getting sky she has never had it she would like Sky +, min 4 mixes and possibly movies...
We already have sky+ and have the full package and pay full price for it I know at one point we could have recommended her and done a deal with the sky+ option.
What would be the best offer you could give us? We would like multi room at our house we have the old box still and new reciver that was fitted at the time of sky+ is capable of it.
Thanks in advance for your help - feel free to PM me...0 -
Kerry, If you know the answer to Peartrees question a reply would be appreciated. I am currently holding out for a Sky + box and would happily wait until July if sky drop £10 charge, as premium packages do not interest me.
Thanks0 -
Kerry,
i currently have sky+ with sports and movies for £34, is there any deals for upgrading to HD at any point in the near future?0 -
Does Sky still do the "magic eye" does anyone know? I have Sky installed in my living room - not attached to a telephone line - and I would like to be able to watch it in the kitchen when I am cooking, and it would be good to have in my bedroom too! In my old house we had this years ago. It would solve the problem of a freeview box in the kitchen, attached to an aerial outside that I would have to buy, install and climb up on to the roof to do, have tried a freeview box but it wont work as the signal is no good here.0
