Rang up Virgin media friday just gone:

    Currently:

    Broadband XL £35
    Line Rental £11

I have Sky sat in addition to these and told Virgin I may consider moving to Sky Broadband....5 minutes later:

    Broadband XL £17.50 (3 Months)
    Line Rental £7

Then after the 3 months are up:

    Broadband XL £30
    Line Rental £7
    (£9 Disount for 12 months)

Of course after the 3 Months are up I shall be calling again! However just a tip that I find it best to leave the Broadband to run at full price for 3 months before asking for another discount.
    Work hard play hard......

  • I called Sky on Tuesday to complain about loss of service and arranged an engineer visit for this coming Wednesday. I called again the following day to enquire about having Sky+ & Multi-Room installed at the same time as my engineer's visit. I was told that no engineer visit had been booked. I asked to speak to a manager and was cut off. I called back, paid the small balance on my account since my last bill and asked to be put through to cancel my subscription.

I was asked my reasons for cancelling and told them my story and how the person had cut me off and was rude. Sky offered me Sky+ for £49 instead of £99, I declined and was then offered a free Sky+ box, free installation with Multi-Room and half-price subscription for 6 months. I accepted and the engineer is due to visit me on the Wednesday of the 'supposed' original engineer's call out date. Im happy!!!:p

and he then offered me a new A grade one for £49 with free installation, subscription!

Sorry but you have been given a refurbished box you will find that its been repaired/checked and graded as per its condition. A refurbished/ graded box usually comes in a brown box where a new one comes in a white box.

I was paying £56 for phone, 4MB Broadband and Basic TV package with Virgin Media. Called to say that I wasn't happy about losing channels and was considering Sky. They knocked it down to £37.50 a month, and the 4MB Broadband is automatically going up to 10MB in May too.
They would have done it for £28.50 a month, but that would have tied me into a new 12 month contract which I can't do right now as I rent.

We have Sky Plus, which is out of the 12 months contract. We pay £37 which includes Sky Sports.

OH rang up to cancel the Sports for the Summer and was told that we would have to pay £10 a month for the Sky Plus box.

    What are our options:

    1. Cancel and wait 30 days and then sign up as a newbie in my name (does this work, same sirname same address?)
    2. Reduce the package to a 2 mix with sports and save hardly anything.
    3. Sign up to this new See, Speak Surf package.

Can anyone give me any indications as to which way I should go for the cheapest package.

I am currently trying to get the best deal for my parents... any advice appreciated.

They currently pay £15 pm for sky subscription (with crappy channels) plus £10 pm for the skyplus box. They own the skyplus box so I guess they are just paying for the priviledge of using it on sky's system?
Their phone line is through BT and pay the usual £10 pm or so line rental plus phone calls. They currently use tiscali daytime dial up internet which costs about £7 pm. So basically £42 per month plus phone charges.

I am with virgin and get large tv, broadband and unlimited phone for £30 so I know that they can get a much better deal through virgin, but my Mum wont give up her skyplus box!!! Do Virgin have a similar system to the skyplus box where she can record her tv programmes digitally?

What's the best deal SKY offer.... I know they have the £26 see speak surf deal but don't think that includes the skyplus box?

I hate to see my Mum and Dad wasting money because they are not technically literate enough to understand all these different packages and hidden extras. Any help much will be appreciated.

When I got home this evening and switched on TV I found that with no prior notice Virgin had cancelled 3 of the channels they’d given us previously as compensation for losing Sky. I called customer services who offered to see how much it would cost to upgrade to get the channels back. My reply to this was that I had no intention of paying extra for something I'd had up till yesterday. At this I was told, “All I can do is apologise”. When I said this was not good enough I was told that I would have to write to the customer complaints department.

Never one to give in too easily I decided to try the “I’m thinking of leaving” line. The guy I spoke to was very understanding but said that unfortunately while he understood how I felt and agreed that it was pretty poor to give something as a goodwill gesture and then take it back just over a month later his department had no control over the way the packages were structured.

I thought this was going to be a bust but then he said he might be able to upgrade me and asked me to hold while he checked the options open to him. He came back quite quickly and offered me 2 options, I could either upgrade to the next package (XL) for 6 months for free or he could offer me a permanent upgrade to a package containing the top TV package for £30 forever! The only catch is that I have had to start a new 12-month contract.

Talk about a no-brainer! The package I was originally on before the Sky channel was cancelled was basic TV, Phone and Broadband for £30 and that was only supposed to be for the first 12 months! I am a very happy bunny.

I just spoke to Homechoice / Tiscali. Told them that Sky and Virginmedia are offering much better combination deals than Tiscali at the moment. According to the person I spoke to they are still restructuring and will be bringing out new packages in the next month or so. As my 12 month contract with them is almost up, I asked them what they would do to keep me as a customer for the time being, so he told me that I would get the next 2 months free (saving of £50) without having to sign a new contract or anything.

Definitely worth a shot if you are a Homechoice/Tiscali customer.
