As Homechoice have been taken over by Tiscali our monthly bill for broadband, TV and phone falls to £14.99 from tomorrow — no effort required! Still needs a basic £10.99 BT line though...

I would really like some advice on how to get my sky package cheaper, have read quite a bit of the thread but still a little confused.

I have sky TV (no broadband or phone with them).

The package I have costs £42.50 a month which I believe is everything except for 1 of the sports packages.

I rang them today saying I was thinking of going back to telewest and was enquiring about any new deals/packages and cancellation terms.

I was told nothing they could do I would have to downgrade my package to get it cheaper and that I had to give 30 days and she could sort that out for me now:eek: (went into panic mode)

I told her I would call back once I knew what telewest were going to charge, so sort of lost my bottle a bit:o

Does anyone think I could get my package cheaper and if I have to threaten cancellation how exactly does that work, do they write to you with a date or does it just cease??

Sorry about all the questions all you seem to be experts

I'm guessing you spoke to the retentions/cancellations department? If you did your mistake was asking for a deal. In order for this department to play ball you have to state you want to cancel because you have found a better deal with a rival. Quote them some prices scare them a bit, as mentioned in the main article if they dont say what you want to hear just say I will think about it and get back to you. Although if your feeling lucky you could just give them your cancellation notice (you have to give 30 days notice) and hope that they ring you back and make you an offer, its all about keeping your nerve :p
  • Are you supposed to get E4 on freesat? My dad has just cancelled sky and now on free sat (no charge) but cant find E4, I thought it should be avaliable as it is on freeview.

I also need some advice please regarding my sky. My inlaws had our sky installed and have paid for it for the last 4 years, they are now unable to keep paying for it and are going to cancel it:eek: I was wondering if I could phone up and try to get package reduced instead of cancelling & pay cost myself & then change to a cheaper package or cancel & then try to get a new customer deal.

    Any advice greatfully recieved:beer:

e4 is only available on freeview, not on freesat

personally i would just cancel the current contract and start a new one up in your name = new equipment and £50 cashback if you go through quidco, or get a friend to recommend you for £30 in m&s vouchhers each

I currently have Sky basic plus some entertainment packs but no Sport or Movies. Costs £21 a month. On top of that I pay BT £15 for line rental, even though I use my mobile. Broadband is not available in my area from Sky and won't be until April, at least. But then again, they've been saying that for months so I could be waiting until next year.

Rang up last night to cancel Sky as I am going tog ot VM. The same channels, line rental and 2Mb broadband will cost me £40, just £4 more than I pay now.

The guy in retentions offered me next to nothing. The best he would do was give me a free Sky+ box - big deal! He suggested I reduced the cost of staying with them by cutting the number of packages I viewed. Thanks for that.

I think I've made the right decision. Obviously they aren't bothered about losing me so I'll go somewhere else.

I'm thinking of getting shot of the movies, sport and a couple of the entertainment packages on my sky subscription. Unfortunately this means I'll have to pay the £10 a month sky+ charge, but it would take my monthly payment down to £25. Will I still recieve E4, and all the bbc and itv channels if I only subscribe to the news and music packages? What about uktv gold and all those others that don't seem to be listed in any of sky's entertainment packages? Basically I just want to clarify what I will actually lose by doing this. Cheers.

I got sky + over a year ago for £99

3 months ago I got Sky HD for £150 (after purchasing 2 AA Batteries Comet)

I also ordered multiroom at the same time to get free installation (saving £60). I have to pay for the HD £10 extra and Multiroom £10 extra

I have the full package with no discounts

I'm only interested in the sport in HD.

I don't watch the movies as I download and I don't watch Sky 1 as I download HD and stream to Dlink MediaLounge

What package can I downgrade to keeping the sport only and not incurring Sky + £10.

Also am I out of my original 12month or did I just commit to a new 12 contract when I got HD Box.

Help I'm paying £60... Good job I matched Skybet to the tune of £230
