  • Further to my last post. This is what I ended up with:

    Bb L
    TV XL
    Phone XL
    Sky Sports
    Sky Movies
    V+ Box

Total £55.50 for 12 months. This is what I was paying for TV (old basic)
    Phone XL and Bb L

I am quite pleased. What do you reckon???

sloth, thanks very much for your help - would I have to pay to have my old sky box installed if I wanted if just for freesat?

when you have your sky+ installed, ask the installer nicely if he would mind running a spare cable from the dish as you want to use the old box for freesat. he probably won't run it all the way to your new location but he should leave enough cable for you do to it yourself.

bear in mind he doesn't have to do this for you but will hopefully do it if he is nice/you give him enough tea and biscuits/give him £20 etc. when i had sky+ installed the bloke did it for free, i had to run it to the box but i wanted to do this bit myself anyway, but when my dad got sky+ the bloke wouldn't even do it for some cash, so it depends on the installer in question

however if you get one who wont do it, it is easy to do yourself ( i did my dad's for him) just need some cable
  • Don't know if this has been mentioned and don't want to read entire thread BUT...

was going to do satellite on the cheap as already had a dish so bought the card and 2nd hand box, didn't work. Phoned Freesat from Sky to see what they can do, offered the standard £150 but then asked if I wanted more channels, I said yes but didn't want to pay £15 per month so they offered me any 2 standard mioxes (not including sports or movies) for £10 per month, free installation and free brand new box. Saved £60 over the year.

I upgraded to the 80G box for £49, free install and that gives me 12 months warranty so I don't have to pay £79 insurance which means I'm £30 up on the year. Also, opted for sky BB at £5 per month as my free BB (from where I used to work is running out next month so I need to pay again) that cost me £20 as I'll install the router myself. THere are no discounted packages on at the moment so I guess I'll just stick to the 2 mixes that I have.

  • Just rang ntl/Virgin on 0845 4540000 and selected the option "Thinking of leaving." After waiting for about 10 mins I spoke to a nice lady and told her of Sky's £37 deal. The first offer she made was.

    TV XL
    Phone XL
    BB M

For £37 per month ongoing. I replied that I would prefer,

    TV XL
    Phone L
    BB L

This she was happy to do for £35/month ongoing. I questioned exactly what ongoing meant and she said it means that it will be £35/month in two, three, five years time, however long I stay on it.

Does anyone know if thre is a way to get Virgin Media without cables?
Life should be a little nuts; otherwise it's just a bunch of Thursdays strung together.

As far as I know yes ... I am with ntl freedom (broadband and talk anytime - 2mb) £24.99 a month, which has now changed to virgin media and was notified that I would be billed the same - BT line rental is separate. Yesterday I phoned them to request MAC code as I am thinking of changing to sky (this too will exclude line rental) they put me through to cancellations where they asked if they took £5 off and have 8mb virgin media bb and phone package would I stay? I told them that I am now paying £24.99 bb and £15 for sky tv, total £39.99 - I can get all bb, talk anytime and tv from sky for £25 a month saving £15 a month! They could not match it.
