Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

With V+ you can rewind, pause etc any tv show your watching, from what i've read it has an advantage over sky+ in that you can record two seperate programs from the one that your watching. Plus the V+ box is free where as it costs £99 for the sky+ box. Plus the V+ box is already capable of transmitting HDTV without the need for paying the £300 sky charge for a HD box0

hi,
can anyone advise pls. if you phone to cancel and are offered the phone and broadband package are you defintely tied into sky tv for a further 12 months?

Hi,
we are having sky+ installed on Monday (free) and have been thinking about using our second box possibly for multiroom and having it based in our sunroom (main sky box is in the lounge). We can watch sky in the sunroom as it has been set up so it can be transmitted throughout the house, but obviously you have to go to the main set up in the lounge to change channels etc, view menus etc. Cannot decide whether £120 (£10 x 12 months), is worth it just to have this option - does anyone know if there are any deals for multiroom or any other way of getting round this without the 12 month tie in?something missing0 -

there are no deals on multiroom, however you could use your old box as a freesat box (pretty much the same as freeview with a few exceptions) and still receive all the paid for channels via your existing transmission system as well. this is what i do in the bedroom and it works fine. you will have to buy a freesat card for £20 though0 -
sloth, thanks very much for your help - would I have to pay to have my old sky box installed if I wanted if just for freesat?something missing0

Does the box respond any faster than the Pace boxes?

HI jolly-jen
I don't think you have to spend £ 120 to control your box from elsewhere I use a Sky remote and link kit
Maplin are doing them at present £10 off for £19-99 you get the eye and another remote control
Maplins Code No pt729
Good luck

Hi Dukie Boy,
Many thanks for your help - I never realised such a thing existed! All these years we have been running back into the lounge to change sky channels! The only thing I am not sure about is how to set this up, as we have sky installed and piped through the house so it is accessible on all the tv's. There are a couple of sockets in the wall in the lounge which do all this, so maybe if I linked it up to one of them it would be okay! Anyway for that money it is worth a try!
Thanks for your help.something missing0 -
