Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

For Sky:
I've had one lot of 20% off family pack for a year then I had 2 lots of 6 months at half price family pack. My latest offer has just ran out and they have just taken the full cost for the family pack by direct debit £21 so I just rang them on this number 0800 0512595 is it the right one and selected cancellations?
They said no discounts at all whatsoever so I told them I'd like to cancel, its going off on 22nd March. I already have virgin media on another tv so it doesnt bother me I only kept it because it was half price. I did ring back again to check with another cancellations person to see if it would be the same and it was. Its obvious the emphasis is on the free broadband, all he did was try to hardsell me moving my phone to BT and getting free broadband with sky. Makes no difference as I'd still have to pay full price for the tv and I am hopefully still going to get half price fam pack on virgin and half price broadband anyway so its actually a bit more to be with sky even with free broadbandThanx

After Sky made a mess of downgrading my package, I phoned them to query it, At the end of the query the rep asked me had I got my letter yet for PremPlus matches. I asked him what he was talking about. He said I had been billed for £35 for 5 matches from Sep 05 to Feb 06. I had subscribed to the matches but thought they had come out ages ago. He said that they do a request every month from your box for pay per view content but could n't get access to mine until last month. He suggested that my phone line may have been disconnected. I assured him it hadn't.I asked him why they hadn't tried to contact me about it. All I got was the usual "You may have a faulty phone line." Basically the upshot of my query is, do I have to pay the whole bill? Is there not some legislation that states if an item has not been billed within 6 months then it is non binding?0

Just phoned sky to cancel family package approx £35, (have been with them for years) and was offered sky+ with a refurbished box completely free of charge, including installation. Did say i would have to subscribe to two premium packages min £34.00 to keep it free, if not the pay £10 a month. Cannot get cable in my area, so really do not have no other options! Is this a good deal or have I been duped!!something missing0

Still waiting for a special deal. Have no sky at the moment and want sky+ but don't want to pay full price for a box. Has anyone had any special deals for new customers or are they all for existing ones? By the way, all those who told us about feb 12th, whats happening? Everyone seems to have gone quiet...I like my money right where I can see it - hanging in my closet.;)0

I phoned Telewest in October and said I was thinking of moving to BT or Sky. They gave me my phone (talk unlimited) TV (lowest) and Broadband (4mb) at half price for 3 months with a view to phone back this month. My costs have now gone back to £55.50 .
I phoned them today and said that I had been looking again at sky and Bt and quoted them their prices. Explained I had been with them since they were Birmingham Cable in 1996. They came up with this offer
Broadband L
Tv XL
Phone XL All for £42.
Talking to him he said that they could offer the following package to any existing customers to keep them
Bband L
TV XL
Phone L all for £35. Mine was £42 because I wanted the Phone XL.
I tried to get him to put me on the VIP package, which is £85 for my original price of £55.50 but there was no way he would have it. I tried for the V+Box but he said that would be £10/month and also tried to get him to put the sports channels on but he said that would be £16.50/month.
I said I would call back tomorrow to either accept or cancel. Hope this helps someone.
Do you think I should keep pushing?0 -
Sky have to start bringing this back i think as so many people are jumping ship to Virgin.
