  • I cancelled our sky package a year ago, we just weren't watching it at all. We live in an area that doesn't yet have Freeview so we kept our dish up and have FreeSat. What I want to know is can Sky legally not offer free channels such as UKHistory and E4 if they are your only alternative?

Net result, I save £17.50 per month and don't have the fuss of changing suppliers or numbers or paying installation fees. Yay for me and raspberries to NTL! :j

I just called NTL, saving £10 per month for 6 months. told them I was going to cancel and switch to Freeview with the HDD (from Aldi) and that I didn't need the extra channels.

I wanted more, but £60 saving over 6 months will do; it's a start!

    :xmastree:

    Adendum:
I then started looking for cheap broadband connections and went back to the NTL web site. There I found that existing users could get the family pack at half price - I already had the family pack and it was that offer the person had given me; I felt dupped! I hadn't got a saving, they had offered me something that I felt I was entitled to anyway!.

So I rang them up, and spoke to some one else. I explained that I felt dupped. It was at that point that he offered me a further £8.49 off, for 12 months. So I said yes (as you would!)

I then asked him about getting a deal for internet. He said that was the £8.49, so he couldn't do anymore.

Basically I have half price family pack for 6 months and half price 1MB broadband for 1 year. Total savings £160.38. This may not sound alot, but I also have a large debt, which I will evaluating once my flat has been sold (so I'll probably post more here next year).

**I have never done this before, and I said that to the NTL people, but I was pleased with the outcome finally! £18.74 saving for 6 months then I'll call up again!!!
Been really bored at work today, so spent all day looking at this forum!

    Biggest debt, £48,000.
    Lightbulb moment - Feb 08.
Current debt June 09 = £17,000, I have sold property to reduce that by so much. Now paying monthly.
Plan to be debt-free May 2012.:D
  • I phoned up last night Tuesday.
I am an existing customer and have been for 8 years.
I asked to be upgraded to this £49 Sky+ deal on the internet.
BUT what I hadnt realised was that will have to pay my existing £21 ++ their £20 =£41 per month.
I pushed for a deal and the man got very stroppy with me saying that it was a very good deal already.
I said ok then what if I cancel, all these new customers are getting fab deals and Im being penalised for being an existing customer.I asked how long is it before Im classed as a new customer again-his reply 5 years!

I said surely you can do a deal with me? this package is far too expensive.
What if I cancelled with you and gave my husbands name?as he will be a new customer?
The man got extremely snotty then and said Sky were looking into situations like this as it was comitting fraud.
So I slammed the phone down on him!

    Any ideas?????
  • You might have been landed with a grumpy person from customer services. Try again and say that you want the SKY+ deal advertised on the web.

If they don't budge say that you'll cancel (you'll be put through to the retentions dept where they have greater power in offering discounts) and move to one of their rivals e.g. NTL because of the cost. But be careful here, if they still don't budge don't go ahead and cancel unless you really want to - just say that you need some time to think about it and will call back later.

And, if you don't get the deal with SKY+ at least get 3 months half price on your current viewing package, it's better than nothing.

It's important not to get angry or frustrated and remember that you're in control - you're the customer and they need you to stay with them.

I just called to cancel spoke to a lovely girl called Krystal however she was telling me about getting rid of channels to lower the cost and that NTL are not cheaper then Sky ect..ect...

I said I would think about it and call back later.

I pay £42.50 an month for the Sky World package - could I get sky+ and pay less for a few months?
    Just have a little faith

    Yes they can!

After all, these are not public service channels (even if one of them is run by one!).
  • Hi all, new to post on this site, but I hope you'll agree this is a good'un....

I read all the posts on getting cheaper telewest and decided to take it a step further. I therefore called Telewest, and politely explained that the little Sky man in my local shopping centre had offered me a great deal of 3 months free and something else (being very vague where possible) which would save me approx £150. Telewest immediately offered me half price for 3 months, therefore a saving of £62.

Undeterred, I said I'd be back with the full facts. An hour later and armed with my own figures of a potential saving of £180 now if I moved to Sky, I was faced with many questions, but fairly quickly we came to an agreement where Telewest would discount my rental by £180 over the year to keep me!!

What a nice Xmas gift eh?

Keep being polite, and you'll get more than you think possible. I saved the thick end of £200 with 2 phonecalls.
  • Hi guys

I rang the 0800 number this afternoon but there are waiting times of 25 mins + and as I am at work I can't really do that right now. Does anyone know what time these ppl close?

Also I am a currently Sky subscriber and would like Sky +. Ideally I would like a Sky+ box installed for £49 and half price for 3 months. Is there any chance of me getting this?

Bearing in mind I had 3 months half price in august/sept/oct - the guy did tell me to ring back when it run out and they would sort something out for me.

    Any comments would be appreciated

    Cheers

I don't think they do close!

The last time I phoned up Sky (to downgrade my package) was at midnight and got through straight away.

By the way More4+1 is now available on Freeview channel 31!
  • Our local paper tonight is advertising SKY+ for £9, so I assume that this is the new deal as of tomorrow.

I've got a new customer deal booked in the OH's name for installation on Saturday (So now what do I do ??)

Ring and ask for the new offer, or ring and cancel and re-book, or just take it on the chin ??
