Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

We have never had Sky - I'm sure the children would love some more junk to watch. However - we are going to want the test cricket next year, and you can't just get sports, you have to pay for other stuff as well; min £15/month plus the Sports sub, once the half-price offer expires. Apart from joining a cricket club to get sky sports free, which doesn't solve the basic problem, has anyone got any suggestions?0

I asked if there was anything I could do to return as a customer with a decent SKY+ deal, in a hushed voice he said, you have two options 1) Wait it out and you will likely get a call from us to confirm you really want to cancel or 2) Sign up again in your wife's name- Just Booked online and installation is booked for Saturday ??
I'll let you know how I get on :xmassmile :xmassmile :xmassmile
Just thought I would update you all.
Install went in late Saturday, the engineer was a bit hacked off as he had been dumped with someone else's workload, I was last on his list, and he was most delighted when I told him a) I already had a dish, b) I didn't want him to do anymore than fit a new LNB and throw the cable over the top of the house. (I hate the cables trailing round the outside of the house and the huge hole they drill to get them inside, so as with our 1st install, I let them get the box working with cable laying on the ground, then I disconnect it all again and run it through the cavity wall !! Much neater Job !!) In light of this pleasent surprise, he was more than willing to fit a quad LNB and leave enough cable and terminators for another drop cable to the bedroom - no further questions asked !!!
So now I have SKY+ £49 (less the £50 back from Quidco) 3 months 1/2 price subscription and freeview using my original box and viewing card in the bedroom !!! :snow_laug :snow_laug :snow_laug

Well I tried the housekeeping thing, and the downloading of firmware thing.
Now it won't pause, won't record, and won't play back anything I have previously recorded. AT ALL.
So all my things to record (and there's LOTS) will now ALL fail. And I can't play a damn thing back.
Does anyone know where I stand as far as the Sky + never having worked, and therefore I can cancel????
I cannot explain how fed up to the back teeth I am of this never working. I pay £46 a MONTH to NOT have any Sky+ functions.
Someone please help
Edit: I was right. Brainiac Xmas special - FAILED. Catherine Tate Xmas special - FAILED. Of all times to do this. It's so upsetting I'm crying (over TV? Someone shoot me) But my husband works shifts, and misses a lot of stuff that I like to record it for him.0 -
I phoned to cancel today and was offered the 75p for 3 months option, I'm on the £14.99 a month option at mo. Normally reserved for people moving into temporary accomadation. I would have happily cancelled though.Nice to save.0

Hi,
Can anyone tell me what happens if I cancel Sky and just use the sky box and satelite as my receiver and aerial - will it still work or will all of the equipment be redundant then?
Do you get the programme planner and those features?
Thanks for your help - I realise after reading Martin's article that I basically use the freeview channels on sky so I want to cancel but use the box as my receiver and ariel.

Sky box will still work after cancelling . You receive all the Freeview channels and the terristial channels. Just leave the box as it
Programme planner works. Not sky+ though if you have that.
Cancellation takes 30 days from whenever you give notice. Do not cancel your direct debit until after final bill paid.0 -
can anybody give me the 015xx number for sky please
fed up of being kept waiting on their 0870 number
Cheers

It does not receive any "Freeview" channels either, Freeview is the name for the digitial terrestrial service, and the channels you get are different. However, you do get a whole host of free satellite channels.
As I have already said in a previous post on this thread, to see what channels are free on satellite, simply take your viewing card out of the slot. You can then only view the free satellite channels - try it!
