Phoned sky tonight to cancel (beat their estimated answer time by two minutes as well...so i was only on for forty...thanking lucky stars for rolled over free mobile minutes and saynoto0870.com...) anywaaaay.

Actually did want to cancel (currently on base pack - the £20 or so one) as I have a better deal for everything (movies / sports etc) elsewhere. Told the lady that's why I was cancelling and she offered me the full pack for 25% off for 12 months.

I didn't ask for any discount at any point and I don't spend very much with them so looks like they are trying hard to keep customers - or just in the christmas spirit...

  • I used the Uswitch site to see what options I had on reducing the cost of my TV, phone and broadband package. It showed that if I left NTL and moved to Homechoice, I would get the broadband effectively for free, a saving of £17.99 per month. Installation was listed at £75, although some leaflets give you discounts on that.

I called NTL, gave them the 'I'd so rather stay with you' speech, and hey presto, they gave me an £8.50 discount for having all three services with them (which EVERYONE is now entitled to, although it hasn't been much publicised yet), plus a £9.00 further discount, purely as an incentive to stay with them. The second discount is good for a calendar year and both started the day I called.

Net result, I save £17.50 per month and don't have the fuss of changing suppliers or numbers or paying installation fees. Yay for me and raspberries to NTL! :j

  • Is this rock bottom? Is £65 with no monthly discounts the best deal going for Sky+ for existing customers?

    JL.

This is what i was offered also, £65 for new box (I'm going to make sure it is a new box!!!) no monthly subscription, but I did get half price for 3 months.

    Mine is installed today :snow_grin
  • I was on the base package of sky at £21 a month and I told them I wanted to leave. They have given me 1/2 price sky for 6 months so it is now just £7.50 per month. Im very pleased:)) Worth the call....

Anybody know where I would stand. I have taken out during the who £49 and no need for extra box thread the sky+ deal. I upped my package to the sky sports 2,3 and movies 2,4,6,8 £30 a month deal as I was on family pack and would have had to pay £10 for sky+ anyway.

Has anyone managed to get a cheaper deal when in this situation. The 12 month contract restarted when I took the sky+. If I threaten to drop down to a lower package they would just charge me the £10 anyway.

When my daughter was 2 she took my veiwing card out and broke it putting it back in. When I phoned sky the woman said it would cost something like (£50 cant remember exactly) to replace it. I said I was going to cancel then and she talked me though somethings that might work. ie pull the cable out at the back (which is a screw fitting) so now I have no card and a trashed box. She was very rude and quoting silly money. So I hung up and phoned back to get a different person. I asked for the address to write to to make a complaint and told them why. Within 2 minutes they had oarranged a new card free of charge and a free enginer to fix box. A saving of about £150.
  • I am currently on Multiroom with Sports package & Disney channel bolted on. I wanted Sky+ and see it's on the net at £49 if you take out multiroom. As i already had multiroom i rung them up to see what they could do. Got a most unhelpful lady who said she could only do one for £99. I delcine this and rung the 0870 404040 number. Waited for 30 minutes and spoke to a really helpful guy. He told me i could only get the £49 via the net but i could have 2 Sky+ boxes for £98 been as i already had multiroom but i must do it via the net. Whilst he was on i tried this but the server is down so he did it over the phone for me. I'm well chuffed now getting Sky+ upstairs and down stairs for less than the price of 1

I've got Sky with a £15 a month basic package. I am thinking about canceling but I still want to retain the free chanels. Will Sky make any charge for this for a veiwing card? Any suggestions?
You will still get all the free channels except for E4, More 4 and ABC 1 which are only free on freeview. Once you cancel your subscription your card automatically becomes a freesat card and decrypts Channel 4 and Five and the other free to view channels. The other channels are free to air. DO NOT buy a Freesat card as you will already have one.
  • I've emailed Sky to let them know I'm cancelling the service. I am still within the cooling off period.. ie haven't even paid anything yet, because I'm sick of repeats already. I haven't had a reply, should I telephone them to clarify??
  • When my digibox packed up I realised that, having no insurance cover this was going to be expensive, so I called SKY and told them that I wouldn't be replacing and wished to cancel my subscription. They sent an engineer with a new digibox - no charge. I am definitely not going to bother with the £80/year insurance henceforth.
