  • Been with Sky for 10+ years on top package (currently £42.50). Not got Sky+ so phoned just now see what I could get with regards to SKY+ deal to match news subscribers (£49 box, no monthly rental, 1/2 price for first 3 months). Didn't want or need multiroom.

Offering £99 to buy box plus no monthly rental, then a lot of hammering down got to £65 with no installation fee. No monthly discount for first three month. Was told "Honestly, no existing customer gets lower than this", which seesms to be true and borne out my past posts.

Said I wasn't happy, blah, blah and was considering leaving if they couldn't match new subscriber deal. Was offered 3 months half price for sky package I'm on to stay (but no movement on Sky+)

Is this rock bottom? Is £65 with no monthly discounts the best deal going for Sky+ for existing customers?

BTW, I know you can record progs to the SkY+ box but can you still tape programmes to VHS and DVD when you have Sky+ ?

    JL.

Have just got my ntl (TV, Tel and B.band) reduced from £77.50 a month, to £63 with free local evening calls and all weekend, plus £12.50 amonth more off my broadband for 3 further months (thats nearly £200 a year saving). by threatening to cancel, I'll do the same in March and see what they offer me to stay then.

    Its worth a try.

Yippee!! Just got free movies and free Disney for the next two months just over the christmas period.

I wasn't happy that we'd been sold two telephone packages that we really didn't need although it only amounted to £7.50 a month and they've given us the free movies and Disney to apologise :D

DH is going to be over the moon!
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

  • I pay sky £52.50p per month for the full package which includes sky+ multiroom and a second box. In reality all I want to watch is sport--Rugby and cricket, but not football or anything else.
Because I have two boxes, which cost me the additional £10, I have to keep the telephone line connected to both.
    I have two problems:
    1. The cost.-- I am retired and must reduce my outgoings.
    Any ideas?
    2. The telephone connection.-- The second box (I must confess) is fitted in my Campervan as an independant system, and therefore I can only connect to the telephone when in my drive. I do this a couple of times a month and do the callback routine. I have had a few of the letters threatening to charge me seperately for the two boxes. ie. £85. They actually did it once but I cancelled the direct debit and started again. I know their system is to stop people sharing the costs, but in my case it is only myself and wife.---- Any ideas?
    There must be a solution.!!
  • First post and a big thanks to everyone on here who persuaded me to haggle! I am on Sportsworld package (£36) with digibox. Just got off the phone from SKY and manged to get my box repaired for free, was also told to phone back when it's repaired to discuss lowering my costs (must be good at this haggling lark). The guy (peter) said at that time he couldn't offer me the discount or a + box as he needed to get my system in 100% working order and all his allowance had gone on my free repairs? I was also told about the new HD box coming out around MAy 2006 and it was mentioned that it would only be for current customers?

    Thanks everyone

  • Phoned sky this morning having read all of the posts on here.

I have been with Sky for years and years and have been paying £42.50 per month. Told them that I wanted to cancel as I couldn't afford the amount and didn't watch as much as i used to.

Straight away was offered the Entertainment package (£21) for £10.50 per month for 3 months. no haggling, pleading or begging involved. Saved £96 in one phone call - quite happy with that.

THanks for all the advice & tips. :xmassign:
  • We currently on the Entertainment package which we downgraded to a couple of years ago after being on the premium package. We still do not watch half the channels. Does anyone know if you can downgrade again to get just two of the modules they are doing now - really we could get away with just the Variety and Knowledge mixes and save ourselves £6 a month.
  • I've got Sky with a £15 a month basic package. I am thinking about canceling but I still want to retain the free chanels. Will Sky make any charge for this for a veiwing card? Any suggestions?

I've pretty much asked the same question, except, I ain't even paid my first direct debt and want to cancell. Far too many repeats for even £7:50

I phoned Sky tonight as I really did want to reduce my package to the 4 mix - £18 per month pack, from the £36.00 4 mix plus movies I am currently on.

I got as far as saying I was THINKING of reducing my package and the operator said "can I just stop you there, we can offer you the full package for £31.75 for the next 3 months"

No haggling, no being put through to another person to try to talk me out of it.

I suppose I may have got more out of them if I had pushed it but I am happy with this. It gets us through xmas and I will revert to my original plan after the 3 months are up.

Just shows they are keen to hold on to subscribers, so there are deals to be had with the minnimum effort.

Want to save a few £'s and not bothered about losing some channels, give it a go...you might get more for less.
