Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

I'm on the Sky World package at £42.50 per month. I rang SKY yesterday, said I wanted to cancel and was put through to a chap in Turnaround.
I simply said that I enjoyed SKY but was concerned about the cost, particularly at this time of year.
Without further ado he offered me a choice of:-
a). 3 months at £21.25 - a saving of £63.75
b). commit to 12 months at £31.88 - a saving over 12 months of £127.44
Went for b). Very pleased with the saving as we'd like to keep all the channels given the choice.
Regards

Had been with sky for a good few years before getting fed up with being ripped off by sky's money making scheme. I cancelled my sky+ account four months ago but have now signed up again for 3 months at half price plus a £50 Argos voucher. I work that out to be 3 months at £18 = £54 -£50 (voucher) = £4 for three months viewing. God Sky must be getting desperate. I wonder if I could negotiate another deal at the end of the three months. If not its back to my freeview box. :xmastree: :xmastree:0

i have the full package been paying £21.25 for the last 5 months, i originally signed up on the happy3 voucher for full package at half price and phoned them up 1 month before 3 months was up to cancel and they tried to everything in the book to keep me on with less channels, i just said i'm happy with paying £21.25 for full package but not a penny more and have no problems in cancelling.
btw they did say it was my last time at this cut price, they said the time before and the time before....we see lol. ;-)Waddle you do eh?0 -
I've been with Sky for about 3.5 years and am currently on the 2 choice £15 package. I rang up to cancel this week as I was considering Telewest and was offered 6 months at £7.50 which I accepted.0

Been a Sky customer for 9 years or so (with a gap of 8 months), and digital since abotu a year after it was brought out.
I've been looking to reduce my monthly outgoings (cancel gym etc), and rang Sky after reading this (and other) threads on here. I phone 0800 731 6965 with the true intention of cancelling, but hoping that they would offer me some financial incentive to stay.
We're on the £21 package at the moment, which is a bit too much TV for us.
My daughter watches Boomerang and Nick/Nick Jr and a couple of others, and we watch the UKTV channels occasionally, plus the odd Discovery/Bravo/Reality TV cop show etc, but that's about it (and VH1 occasionally too), but I sat down and decided that the amount we watch them all, the only loss we were bothered about would be Boomerang, and UKTV Gold, so Topup TV was looking the best option.
Rang Sky on the above number spoke to an Indian Call Centre told him I wanted to cancel, he confirmed my details and put me through to 'the relevant department' (read : Cancellations team at Sky).
He listened to all my reasons, had a bit of a chat and offered me halfprice for three months, which, while it still isn't cheaper than TUTV (on a pure month for month basis), we do get the channels that TUTV dont carry that we do occasionally watch, not tied into any obligation.
So from £21.00 to £10.500 a month for 3 months isn't the best offer that is within their remit, its still beneficial and satisfactory to me, so I'm happy. Would have liked a free remote out of them too, as ours is dodgy, but knew there wouldn't have been any point in trying...lol Im not natures most bartering of people anyway.
So all in all, I'm happy. Not the best offer they could do, and the usual first port of call for the advisor (offer them half price for 3 months), but it suits me.

Are you now signed up on a 12 month contract? We cancelled and I am trying to get OH to agree to go back but he's not keen.

No just the three months at half price0 -
Ivenofinmoney wrote:Best they could come up with was SKY+ (without Multi room) £65 no movement on Monthly subscription - tried to get me to sign up for HDTV and broadband services which don't exist yet
So as promissed, I really did quit !!!
Shame, if they could have just squeezed a bit that could have been my xmas pressie from the OH
Will wait and see how we get on without it (probably won't even notice !!)
Rang them back tonight with the intention of blagging, along the lines of "They offered to match new user subscription last week", Turnaround department said they could do nothing once the cancelation had been actioned.
I asked if there was anything I could do to return as a customer with a decent SKY+ deal, in a hushed voice he said, you have two options 1) Wait it out and you will likely get a call from us to confirm you really want to cancel or 2) Sign up again in your wife's name- Just Booked online and installation is booked for Saturday ??
I'll let you know how I get on :xmassmile :xmassmile :xmassmile0 -
I'm on the full package at £42.50 plus another tenner for a second sky+ subscription.
Rang the 0800 no mentioned previously and got Indian call centre. Then put through to another dept and said I wanted to cancel cos could get better overall package with NTL incl phone and broadband.
They suggested checking out SKY's package for phone and broadband and "while I'm deciding" they'll halve my monthly subscrip to £21.25 for 3 months so I'm saving 60 quid straight away
Will call back just before the 3 months is up to try for another 3 months at half price.
Thanks a lot for the advice everyone :rudolf:0 -
Rang up Sky to cancel my digital TV package (sportsworld) and said that the reason for wanting to cancel was cost. The helpful guy at retentions went through my package trying to identify where I could make savings by dropping unused channels but I said I would like to keep most of them! He immediately offered my 3 months half price and I accepted. (Will try again after my offer period is over!)
As I was on a roll I phoned up NTL with whom I have 2MB Broadband only. I said that I was looking to cancel because Tiscali are offering the same service for £17.99 a month. The helpful NTL guy gave me 3 months half price and told me to ring back in March 2006 when I could get a similar discount for a whole year!
In under 30 mins I had saved a tidy sum, well worth haggling, these companies are desperate to keep your custom.
