Fenboy_Steve wrote:I am yet another person who attempted the retention gamble with SKY in November and my 4 weeks notice period is up today. My subscription has been cancelled and I await the illusive "phone call" from SKY. I will of course let people know if and when it appears and what is offered. I must say however that as a long-term subscriber to SKY (since the early analogue days) the prospect of losing channels was somewhat daunting. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the number of channels that can still be viewed as "freeview" (way more than terrestrial freeview) and it strikes me that doing without SKY will not be half as difficult as I had imagined it would be. Perhaps SKY's tactic of allowing people to cancel without attempting retention might prove costly. Having realised what is available for free, they WILL need to make a good offer to get me back.
Wife was annoyed as she'd be missing Lost, but we have seen them all now, well, untill Feb 20070 -
Earlier this year we took up a 3 mth 1/2 price offer & in August we tried to repeat the deal. When my OH rang he told them we couldn't justify the £40 + per month & were offered another 3 months at 1/2 price. We accepted the deal but after the 2nd monthly DD was taken out of our account I realised we were again paying full price.
Anyway it was 10th Nov when my OH got around to ringing to query why we had been charged full and he was told that we shouldn't have been offered the deal as we had a deal earlier this year, so the offer had been cancelled without telling us! They would not budge on the decision and he was so annoyed he cancelled there and then ( I suspect he expected them to persuade him otherwise but they didn't).
We are due to be disconected on the 9th and he is now having palpitations at the thought of being without Sky and is on the verge of ringing and begging them to let him stay!!
Can someone tell me if we are disconnected and subseqently re-connected are we likely to be charged a reconnection fee? If I can hide the phones I may be able to persuade him to wait and see if they contact us but I need to know about any possible fees. Please help!0 -
Chippy, I don't believe you'll incur a reconnection fee. We had a letter a few days after cancelling saying they would "welcome" us back and we wouldn't need to start a new contract. Same would apply to you I guess. If you can persuade your OH to sit it out, your best chance of getting any kind of offer is if sky call you. As I said earlier, I think you'll be surprised how many free-to-air channels are left after you're subscription is cancelled.0

" :dance:0 -
Does anyone have recent experience of what Sky might do once you've cancelled. My £18 for 'Sports and all other channels bar movies' 5 month deal ends in January. Am thinking of paying Sky £10 a month just to keep Sky Plus with FreeSat.
However, how likely that Sky will phone me after a while offering a new deal?0 -
Phoned to pay my last bill the other day to be told they had "no record" of my phone call when I cancelled so have had to re-cancell and pay for an extra 3 days till they cut us off.
Luckily there was only 3 days between when I cancelled and when I phoned to pay bill.
I was livid with them cos if I'd paid any other way I would never have found out they had "no record" and would have had to pay another month that I didn't want!!!!!0 -
Hmmm I dunno what to do now.....
Phoned sky on 0800 number and went through to turnaround. What I wanted was a cost reduction from 38quid a month to say 20quid or so. The guy said the offer had ended on the 1/2 price for 3months so he was unwilling to offer anything. Best he could suggest would be to phone back by the 22nd which is my billing date and see what I could be offered then!!!
I would be happy with Freeview apart from missing out on the Liverpool Matches (guy said it costs 30-40quid to go and watch a game!! lol). Though realistically I cannot continue to pay nearly 40quid a month just to watch the odd live Liverpool Match!!
So any1 think they will have a new range of offers by the 22nd??? Or should I start looking for a cheap sky+ equiv. box on Freeview like the Humax 9200??

We cancelled our sky family package £21 per month last month (it's killing me)!!
Unfortunately, for us they did not offer any incentive to stay and were happy to accept the cancellation (we have been customers for over 6 years!!)
We have had no letters or phone calls asking us back as yet - i wish they would.
We cancelled due to cost cutting and now that everything is sorted we could afford to pay £15.00 per month.
I notice in alot of the posts sky don't seem to value us bottom feeders and tend not to offer the deals for basic packages
Anyone have any ideas on how we can get a deal with sky???0 -
Thanks for your replies, just thought i'd update you.
As I expected on the eve of our imminent cut off my OH panicked and begged them not to disconnect...no offers, no deals just pure begging!
I agree that our long term custom doesnt seem to mean anything to them at the moment-we've been with them for as long as I can remember. Also I dont think it matters if your are on the basic package or not because we were (and still are!!) on the full package and from what I can gather the person on the other end of the phone was more put out about having to re activate the DD than our continued custom!0 -
clwbowker .... If I were you I would have a hard long look at Freeview as it for me seems to offer a very tempting alternative (the only reason I am not with Freeview is the football and at 37quid a month my patience is wearing thin!).
You can buy a Freeview PVR box for between say 100quid to 200quid (depending on HDD size and quality) for a SKY+ equivalent experience.
