    Hi everyone,

My best friend is thinking of getting Sky (just the smallest package) and I was just wondering what the best deal for her out there is? I've seen the refer a friend thing on the website - if I refer her she gets it half price for 3 months and free installation (will this be true even in a second floor flat?) I was hoping to get her sky+ with it too as I thought that was part of the deal but it doesn't seem to be from looking at the Sky website? I already have 2 sky+ boxes in my house so don't need another one. I know the other option for my end of the referral is £50 vouchers but this doesn't seem as good in comparison to a sky+ box. Any ideas on what's best to do would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Regards

    Michelle

I recommended a friend and am being fitted with sky+ january 5th the reason its taking them a while to fit is because i have had to book my installtion with the special heights team as my dish is on my chimney but i got it all for free so i dont mind waiting i didnt opt for multiroom and i will be upping my subscription to movies so i will get sky+ subs free they did try and charge me £60 for installation until i told her that i know to a few people that have phoned them and threatened to leave and have had it all in for £49 and that i had actually gave them a new customer so should get it for free.

I have also made a call to telewest as i was paying about £45 a month for starter tv phone line and 2 mg i gave them the usual ive been a loyal customer for several years and never been given an offer where as everybody else seems to and that i could apply to sky for broadband and the lady on the phone who was very nice offered me essential tv phone line and 4mg for £30 a month so i'm happy. :T

Our 12-month freesatfromsky contract expires soon, which means we won't have access to the 2 packages, offered for free for 12 months to new freesatfromsky customers. We thought we could get (a) the recent offer (half-price for 3 months) which in the meanwhile expired end of November, and (b) perhaps a better deal for the fact that we don't need the free set-top box and installation that come with new contracts. As it turned out, neither of the two were available to us, which I found very surprising, particularly for (a). To start with, the legality of making special offers to new customers only is very questionable, and as far as I remember the mobile phone industry has been challenged over this. As for (b), how does it make business sense encouraging a freesatfromsky user to let the contact expire and sign up as a new customer, claiming the free box and installation? Any comments/advice please?

I was ending my contract with Sky+ due to moving home and thinking of getting the same package with Telewest.

Now, the same package with Telewest (including Sky+ functionality) was coming in at £39.50 a month but with less free-to-air channels and less documentary channels.

Kinda told a little white lie to the retentions dept at Sky+ and said I was getting the same channels I currently get with them for £28.50 a month with Telewest but wanted to stick with Sky - could they offer me a better deal.

In return, they waived the £40 moving home charge (pretty standard anyways) but also reduced my monthly payment to £34 a month and I get over 200 channels, double that of Telewest, all the movies & documentary channels, basically the only channels I don't get are the sports. And I didn't have to sign up for another minimum 12 months, I can still give 1 months notice to cancel whenever I like. So saved myself £105 over the year compared to Telewest or £74 compared to what Sky would've charged if I didn't haggle.

i have just come t othe end of my 6months half price with Sky that i negotiated a while back and was going to try to re-negotiate but think probably waiting til january would be better as i suspect lots of new people are joining before chrimbo

anyways my question is if i upgraded to include movies in my subs so i have them for xmas and then tried to re-negotiate would i be able to drop or include the movies part in my renegotiations or would i be tied into the upgrade???

just thought it might be nice to have the movies over chrimbo but dont want to get tied into a higher price for the next year

    thanks in advance

  • I am yet another person who attempted the retention gamble with SKY in November and my 4 weeks notice period is up today. My subscription has been cancelled and I await the illusive "phone call" from SKY. I will of course let people know if and when it appears and what is offered. I must say however that as a long-term subscriber to SKY (since the early analogue days) the prospect of losing channels was somewhat daunting. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the number of channels that can still be viewed as "freeview" (way more than terrestrial freeview) and it strikes me that doing without SKY will not be half as difficult as I had imagined it would be. Perhaps SKY's tactic of allowing people to cancel without attempting retention might prove costly. Having realised what is available for free, they WILL need to make a good offer to get me back.

As far as I'm aware, once you've completed your initial 12 months with SKY, you are free to increase or decrease channels as you want and I don't believe there is a notice period when downgrading again. Not sure if there is a minimum time you need to keep the package after changing (i.e. 1 month)
