Received my V8 details as well Freddy - DD 6% & Dual Fuel 3% same as yours, but online discount only 4.3%. Well done, but it all seems a bit hit and miss
  • i found this thread earlier today and did some checking and then rung Eon who confirmed what i had worked out , that even though i lose 4% of the discount, with the cheaper prices i will be better off by switching so i did, i also did a meter reading on the day the price increase was announced, like everyone elsehere trying to help myself and save some money..
  • I switched from 5 to 8 today was told i would save £285 per year AND that prices were protected from increase until November 2009

This is not true. This product isn't a capped one. What they probably meant was the percentage discount is garenteed to remain until 1st Now 09. They can increase the actual unit prices any time they like.
  • Hi,
Just compared my prices online on the e-on website and the energyline.com website and there seem to be a huge difference:

    On the e-on website:

    Electricity
up to 900 kWhs / Normal units 27.111 pence / 10.836 pence per kWh
    Gas
up to 2680 kWhs / Normal units
    6.52995 pence / 3.5574 pence per kWh

    and on energyhelpline website:

    E.ON - EnergyOnline Extra Saver 5 :

Gas : Unit charge (pence per kWh) 4.570p for the first 670 kWh per quarter, and 2.913p thereafter

Electricity:19.646p for the first 225 kWh per quarter, and 10.647p thereafter

Depending on the version, I save more than £200 or loose £10 by switching to v8!!!! The preices on the e-on website correspond more to the "Energy save v5 on energyhelpline. Who is right?
  • I would say E-On are right, afterall they are the company - there is discussion about this on previous posts.

    sorry, I missed that!
  • I just phoned up EON to find out the difference in discount between the two, I am on online 5 at the moment. He confirmed that i would get the same discount as now on the online 8 (15%), so seemed silly not to change.

Just hope the online 8 doesn't go up to more than the online 5! Have printed out the online 5 details to keep as proof of what I was on.
    Quidco: Paid £2,244.90 :D
    TCB: Paid £342.82
  • I just phoned Eon as we were on the Energysaver 5 and was asking about the prices for the capped tariff. I asked why the 8 prices were so much cheaper and was it because they hadnt altered them yet but were about to. She said the 8 willnot go up untill the next round of increases by all the companies so shouldnt be for a few months yet. Dont know how much you can trust what they say but I have now changed to the 8.
  • It's all slightly different with online tariffs...
While energy companies have increased their main tariffs, some haven't yet upped their online tariffs, including British Gas Click Energy 5 and E.ON EnergyOnline Extra Saver 8.

Internet rates are usually much cheaper, so providers delay increasing prices hoping that in the switching frenzy that follows price rise announcements, many people will switch to them as they look massively cheaper.

While in general they are cheaper, this means a big chunk of the saving may simply be because their price hasn't increased yet. So before switching to an online tariff, check whether its price has increased in price rise charts, and if it hasn't, assume a 20-25% price rise is still to come.
