I phone up on 23/08/08 and was told I'd save "over £100" by switching from v5 to v8. I have a letter dated 23/08/08 confirming change and v8 prices. Today I get a letter saying prices for v8 went up from 22/08/2008 (i.e. the day before I switched)!
Are the new V8 prices higher than the v5 prices now? If so, I'm going to make a formal complaint. Can they backdate prices after you have switched like this??

I'm exactly the same as you - switched to V8 on 23/8, received my confirmation over a week ago, and now today, received letter informing me that my V5 rates have gone up. I'm relying on the online 'your product' as being correct - and that says I am on V8. But all very confusing though0 -

Well I changed from V5 to V8 on 29th August and have the confirmation letter in front of me. I also received a letter today telling me the prices have gone up. The letter is dated September 2008. But as previous posters say it doesn't mention V5 or V8. I've just checked on my account online and it says I am on V8 and the prices quoted online are cheaper than the letter says. Confusing!0

The reason the prices quoted online are cheaper than on the letter is that the letter prices INCLUDE VAT and the online prices DO NOT INCLUDE VAT. This confused me too, so I rang them - hope this saves you the price of a phone call!!!
This isn't true in my case as the letter quotes both - for instance
New Gas prices in letter say 6.219p/kWh (exc VAT) Primary unit rate
Gas price on V8 online say Normal units up to 2680 kWhs 4.5696 pence0 -
So are you saying that the letter refers to V8 now ?

The letters don't mention a version from what I've seen so far. It should work that if you were on v5 at the 22nd Aug you get a price increase letter. If you've subsequently changed you should still get the letter because the data capture for which accounts get price incr letters was run on the 22nd and is not updated with any changes that have since been made.0

I changed to v8 a couple of weeks ago and had the confirmation letter stating I'd receive the extra 5.70% discount until at least November 2009.
I also had the letter detailing price increases from 22 August but no mention of v5 or v8 but this ones states I'll continue to receive extra saver online discount until 1 April 2009.
I also entered meter readings on 6 September but they are not using them to create a bill (again). How will they know how much was used before you switched and how much after (
yet again!).
My account is still showing the price when I switched.
Will have to give them a ring.0
